  We booked through a travel agent - hotel only -because the price was better than the Hotel web site. Hotel was very clean, ditto for the room 203 in the old hacienda section. Staff is very friendly( with above average English spoken at the reception) especially Jorge. About 200 meters from the hotel, for half the price we got good breakfasts. We're also there for two lunches, at a good price , quick service and clean place. Much faster lunch service than at the Casa.

  Room a bit noisy from the street traffic.

  We booked 2 rooms for a very reasonable price. Overall, the experience was pleasant, and we felt the hotel was good value for the price. The rooms and common areas were tastefully decorated in the Yucatecan style and very charming.

  On the downside, the service at the restaurant was a little slow and a bit pricey. As also described by other reviewers, water pressure and hot water availability were an issue.

  By far the worst thing about this hotel is that they have only flourescent lighting in the rooms (at least the one I was in). Also, the bellhop aggressively tried to tout me on the hotel's guide service, when I checked in and again the next day. To make matters worse, the toilet in my room did not work properly.

  Our room was clean and beds were relatively comfortable. The breakfast/dining room was very lovely and the patio around the pool was very nice. The staff is helpful and well intentioned and can help book tours as needed. Probably the best thing about this hotel is the location. The windows in the rooms open to reveal a plexi glass barrier (probably for noise control?

  On the flip side, we lost hot water one day which was a bit upsetting and the water also has an odor which pervades the room.

  We loved the Casa del Balam and the location is great for everything. The central courtyard with the pool was a calm relaxing place to sit and enjoy a cool drink. There was promotion on whe n we were there with breakfast and dinner included. The food in the restaurant was very good but choice was limited on the promotional menu. Service was excellent and everyone was very friendly. The room was clean and bright but no view except of next building.

  The hotel is in a great location, central to most things in Merida and the rooms are charming, clean, good sized and a good value. The staff is friendly and parking is conveniently located, but the attendants at the parking lot do not speak a word of english, so have your spanish ready. We enjoyed the hotel, the restaurant was good and a reasonable value. For example: the cathedral has no tours or information available out front. A nice hotel & good value, but have side trips arranged, Uxmal & Izamal are definitely worth the trip.

  Since the Hyatt is on the edge of town, we decided it'd be easier and more fun if we stayed closer to downtown so we could wander around the mercado more easily and not worry about having to find a cab back each night, etc. The lobby is a lush green garden (it's a courtyard cafe during the day), the pool in the back is peaceful and quiet, and the furniture and decorations are simple and elegant. 1 block from where things really start happening, so it's convenient but also quiet. Also, the staff were so friendly, easygoing, helpful and professional.

  We had two connecting rooms which were very comfortable and handsomely decorated. The common areas in the old part of the hotel are gorgeous, and the pool is a terrific respite from walking the hot city streets. The only downside is that a couple of staff members were a little on the impatient and cranky side -- couldn't tolerate speaking Spanish with us, etc.

  The staff is the best and you really get the feel of an excellent boutique hotel which is located in the best area for enjoying Merida.

  Wonderfully decorated and surrounding the courtyard garden planted with palms and blooming flowers. Although the rooms are in a more modern building, the character of this beautiful place is maintained with terrazo floors, wrought iron headboards and locally made furniture. The pool was a god send after returning from a day of traveling around and is also surrouned by an explosion of plants and flowers. The staff was typical Merida, friendly, smiling, accomodating and fun. Merida is a jewel, a friendly multilayered cultural and ethnic experience.
