This must have been a grand hotel years ago, it is not as new as others but it's clean, perfectly mantained, ideally located, has all modern conveniences, a friendly staff and great value for your money.
My understanding is that without a package, the price of the hotel hovers around $315 a night.
At this price (non-package) I would not recommend this hotel.
Personally I would rather stay in the old historic section of the city but I understand that the prices of hotels situated there are considerably higher.
The location and the building structure are great, but there are so many places to see in Cartagena that after you have visited the city you'll realize that Hotel Caribe is not the best.
We loved the pool and the beach, which was right across from the hotel, had the best location of all the mayor hotels.
As soon as we stepped foot on the beach, which is dark sand, not white, we were immediately harassed by the locals to try and purchase things and rent an area to stay on the beach.
We are a family of five and got 2 rooms next to each other ( no adjoining rooms but that was ok ), the kids stayed on a room with 2 double beds and 2 futons.
Historical style, a fantastic king-size bed.
The beds were comfortable, the rooms big and clean.
So far, I have made 3 phone calls and sent 3 emails requesting reservation for a single room, and after a week they have not answered any of them.
The bathroom only had a shower but the water pressure wasn't strong and hot water was limited for some reason.
Included in the package was breakfast and either lunch or diner for each day.
You only get two meals when you are semi-all inclusive so we would go out for dinner and out on the town there are some great restaurants.
OVERALL THIS HOTEL WAS VERY ENJOYABLE AS IT WAS ONLY ABOUT 200YARDS FROM THE BEACH BARS AND RESTAURANTS.
The pool was very nice, the breakfast was good, although the workout equipment was not so great (I guess you can't have everything).
The breakfast buffet was adequate with a decent selection.
I found that the service was wonderful - we were treated extremely well by all staff, even the elevator attendents (yes, they still have those in the older part of the hotel).
We were on an "all inclusive" package; still the staff could not do enough for us, responding with a smile to the tiniest request.
Some hotel staff made a better effort to speak English and the biggest shower-head I have ever experienced.
I was here for a large workshop, which my organization organized, and the conference facilities and staff could not have been better.
Has very nice pool and a mini-forest as a patio.
In addition the pool was great & steam suna was good.

Very good location, cleanliness of rooms - hotel staff kept rooms really clean & tidy.
