The location. The breakfast was good but somebody should have told me I had to book when I checked in.

The room is too small. There was a guy arguing with your check in staff when I arrived. He claimed he booked for a double room but was offered a single room instead. He was really mad! Now, that was a problem for me. At 1:00 am, you do not want to enter into a rowdy scene. Then there was the hotel staff telling me that since a did nort pre-book my breakfast, I had to pay £10 instead of £5. What a shame! Nobody told me that on check-in.

Very central hotel, near to railway station, bus station, theatre, shops. Very friendly staff and good breakfast. Excellent value for money.

They gave me a single room when I asked for a double, told me I could claim for a partial refund the following day, and when I attempted they said they didn't have authorisation.

Hotel was clean convenient, close to station and university. Staff were very friendly and helpful. We had booked a twin room but on arrival were told twin rooms were overbooked but we could have 2 single rooms close together for the same price. This option suited us fine and the rooms we were given were fine so it was no problem. We had booked room only and were pleasd to discover that we could have a half price breakfast £5 if we bought the voucher when we booked in.WE Did so and were very please dwith th breakfast provided. Food was plentiful, tasty and well prepared.

Only one minor point.- We were hoping to go to bar for a quiet drink but were ther on karoke night so a quiet drink was not an option..

Location is great for us; used to go to Premier Inn but they are much more expensive these days. This was 3rd visit in few weeks and first visit room was really good and warranted higher grading than given here. I would recommend Britannia but on conditional terms only.

Last 2 visits accommodation not up to snuff. In common with other places bathroom decor was poor with mould and discoloured grouting. should really visit the premises - your reputation is on the line. We have left 2 critical reviews with the hotel but no feedback whatsoever.

I liked the fact we were able to book an additional room whilst there without fuss.Very prompt service

the rooms all stank of stale cigarettes as people obviously smoked out of their windows and the pipes near the bed were extremely hot.Needs a strict non-smoking policy

I arrived at 7.45pm from a long train journey and on arrival was sold a dinner package by the receptionist with no briefing that dinner finished at 8.30pm. I arrived for dinner (last Tuesday night 7/2) and it was 8.40 so was closed, The senior waitress was embarrased and worked to sort me out and said she could - she di and provided a meal but I wish I had ate elsewhere. It was two different potato types, some turkey, poor gravy and some old carrots and I did wish I had ate else. I do not stay for breakfast and will not use this hotel again.

The price of the rooms and convenience/proximity to the train station

Noisy at times due to building work outside (not connected with the hotel)

Next door to Grand Theatre. Lots of hot water. The bed was very well made, spotlessly clean (unlike everything else in the room) and it was comfortable. I only had breakfast once and it was good.

I was working at the Grand Theatre and wanted a hotel close by and having stayed at the Britannia about six years ago hoped to repeat what originally had been a pleasant stay. How wrong I was, the hotel has deteriorated so badly in the intervening years. The room was dirty, long black hairs everywhere, empty pizza box under bed, empty water bottle and black false nails on floor, skirting boards were filthy, lavatory handle was hanging off, bathroom tiles and floor were grubby, bath was chipped, lavatory was cracked, pedal bin didn’t work and had not been cleaned, with hair left in it. Trouser press had no switch so could not be used. The drawers in the bedside cabinets had been used as ashtrays. Air extractor outside bedroom window went on all night. View from window of filthy yard was horrible. No information regarding breakfast times, no ‘do not disturb’ sign. The corridors of the hotel smelt of cigarette smoke. I did complain about the state of the room and asked to be moved but they had no other rooms so I had no alternative but to stay put. If I ever went back to work at the Grand Theatre, despite the extremely convenient location, I would never ever stay there again. It was a very unpleasant and depressing experience.
