Britannia Hotel Birmingham - 伯明翰

The only good thing about this hotel is it's location - right in the middle of the city centre, next to all the shops and the station.

A little bit of work could see the hotel flourish as its location is so good.

May stay there again because of the location but not on the 3rd floor!

It took about 15 mins to get to the airport from there.

There is a taxi rank just round the corner.

We were given a room in a dinghy corner, 2 tiny single beds with horrid candlewick bed-spreads, dusty underneath & to cap it all, there was NO lock on the door so we had to pile our luggage next to it at night & sleep with 1 eye open!

The room was average, it looked like it had been decorated in the last few years, but there were marks/stains on the wall opposite the bed.

Although I paid for a twin room (I stayed there with a friend), I found that in fact there was 1 double and 1 single bed in the room).

Room clean if old but adequate as we only went to bed at 4am so didn't see much of it!

The other problem that the lack of a second pane of glass causes is the cold, the room was nice and warm where the radiator was but at the other side of the bed it was freezing.

The fumes were also in the restaurant and bar so therefore could not eat breakfast or consider dining in evening.

I only ate breakfast in the restaurant which was?

The bar was really comfortable and the breakfast buffet was actually quite good.

Admittedly the restaurant was a no-go area in the evenings while we were there, but there are some very good restaurants close by - Chez Jules for one and Chung Ying in the Chinese quarter for another.

Breakfast staff in the restaurant were rude, unhelpful and made breakfast unpleasant.

At reception the staff are ok, bit slow at responding to you standing there waiting for service.

The reception staff were friendly/helpful enough given that they had just checked in a hundred-odd people.

Breakfasts were fine, staff very efficient and friendly both in the dining area and reception.

The reception staff were OK and did kindly allow my son to practise with his vocal group in a function room upstairs.

I didn't explore any more of the hotel than I needed to; I literally saw the lobby, the lift and the areas on the way to my room.

The one working lift had a mind of its own ; when the machines finally take over I'll know where it all started.

Queueing for this lift became another pasttime.

Service - adequate and the rooms clean and tidy.

On both occasions the room was clean bright and airy, the 2nd occasion that I stayed my flight was so early (9am) but the receptionist let me check in straight away instead of 2pm and I found her to be bright and cheerful as well as helpful.

This hotel is clean and the rooms seem a good size.

I found the beds to be comfortable and clean and (important for me as I have to have at least 2 pillows!

The shower worked well, and the other toilet facilities were good and clean.
