Borgo Scopeto Relais Vagliagli

Set in the rolling hills outside Sienna, the location could not be more perfect.

As I say, it isn't the cheapest for accomodation or food but with the Borgo you really do get what you pay for: Luxury throughout, a great location, superb staff & excellent facilities.

The location could not be more perfect and the restaurant is strangely lacking in atmosphere the outsidey-bit is lovely.

The choice is yours to have a totally private stay or drive into Siena (20 mins away by taxi costs around 25 Euros one way).

No downside if you have a car, otherwise be resigned to taxis.

The room we had was just incredible - ensconced in the 1000 year old tower, it encompassed a very large bathroom downstairs and bedroom, hall, living room and separate shower/bath upstairs.

The bed was hard, the sheets were coarse and the bathroom was nothing special.

As we were on our Honeymoon we asked for a room upgrade which was granted and the room we got was superb - great views, 2x bathrooms, dressing room, plasma tv with internet acesss and very tastefully furnished.

Now a luxury place for all senses, the staff on reception were at best frosty and the bed was very comfortable.

While it all looked good on the outside, we were dissappointed for a few reasons: 1) Blood on sheets at night when they turned down bed.

Lovely breakfasts - served outside; dinner served at restaurant on-site.

At dinner time, the restaurant was a nightmare - food arriving so late I was virtually unconscious - whilst the majority of the waiters seemed intent on ignoring the majority of their guests which was a real disappointment.

We really enjoyed their delicious complimentary breakfast on the terrace overlooking the amazing Tuscan scenery.

If you want to try another restaurant close by, go to Osteria Vecchia - a five minute drive from the Scopeto.

We found the service to be above average with courteous and eager people at the desk and in the restaurant.

However, our bubble was burst by the cold reception of the front desk employee.

Our stay was enhanced by the fabulous views of the countryside and the staff at the reception desk were so accommodating.

Meals in the restaurant are delightful and the reception staff friendly and efficient.

Now a luxury place for all senses and the front desk staff was attentive.

The staff are very pleasant and in either the bar or the dinning room the standard of service is though you are in the Ritz!
