Bluebay Grand Esmeralda Playa del Carmen

Great location close to the Buffet and Large free form pool.

Our room was facing away from the ocean, so we did not get a great view, but what the heck we did not go to Mexico to spend our time there in the room and our location did provide for shade all day if we needed it (and we did occasionally).

Odors: depending on wind direction and your location, it can be no problem, or nearly intolerable.

I learned the hard way: the resort called in a taxi for transport to the airport for my departure: $33 excl.

By the way, Gray Line taxi charges $82 one-way from Cancun airport to the resort.

We stayed in a swim up suite, and had 2 bath rooms, dining area, nice bed room and spa tub in the balcony.

Rooms were very nice, we didn't have the swim up pool or a suite - just a plain room with a king size bed - it was GREAT!

The room was very nice it was actually 2 rooms which had 2 TVs, 2 baths, table and chairs for 4, pullout sofa bed, safe, coffee maker, ceiling fans and comfortable king bed.

You have your own little pool in front of your balcony (the water was cooler than the 2 large pools), a separate room with a king size bed, 2 complete bathrooms and a hide-a-bed in the living room.

I was amazing how luxurious the rooms were (two full bathrooms, hot tub on the balcony, fresh fruit platter, fresh white lilies, daily stocked refrigirator in the room etc).

There is now a list of activities and times at the dinner buffet restaurant and down at the lunch and breakfast restaurants.

Food- Breakfast and lunch is served @ a beautiful poolside/beachside restaurant, w/ some of the most surreal views.

The food was average-to-above average depending on whether you ate at the buffet-bar or one of the French, Italian, or Mexican, a-la-carte restaurants.

Breakfast and lunch buffets were served in the oceanfront buffet restaurant.

One last thing…there is a nice bar/lounge between the French and the Italian restaurants where you can meet before dinner to sit and have a pre-dinner drink in air-conditioned comfort.

Service & staff were very efficient cordial & welcoming and our concierge Mario was just amazing.

I think management needs to improve some of the services - some of the buildings did not have concierge service throughout the entire day - just sort of on-off.

We have had the opportunity to stay at 5* Resorts in the past and the response to problems by the front desk staff was not the same professional service you expect at a 5*.

The resort is fairly wide-spread, but they have drivers that will give you a lift from the room/pool/beach sections up to the main lobby and a la carte restaurants, as well as the dinner buffet.

The GGE is still growing with 3 more room buildings being built, a second pool with artificial beach being constructed and a new Fitness centre and theatre.

One pool was used for the games, fitness and activities.

Here is some advice - laptops worked best at the buffet area if you had wireless internet.

The service was ALWAYS great, the room was very clean and cool, the food in the buffets was much better.

Our rooms were clean, i never saw the buffets closed.

This was a super spot with a lovely site, great food, clean rooms, a fabuous pool, a very courteous and helpful staff, and a relaxed atmosphere.
