The location of this friendly hotel is excellent as Durham, Newcastle, the Metro Centre and the countryside are all nearby. The view from the hotel of the Team Valley is lovely at night with all the lights showing. The staff on reception are friendly and helpful and the food in Paco's restaurant is fabulous. I wish we had such a restaurant near our home. Paco is a lovely man. The bedrooms are a bit small but the beds are large and comfy and the bath towels are big and fluffy which is something so many hotels get wrong.

The hotel can get very noisy, one could say rowdy, at weekends especially on a Friday because of the integral pub. The breakfast is too expensive for us. There are many sets of steep stairs and no lift which for anyone of limited mobility could be very difficult.

We arrived on a Saturday morning and asked if there was any possibility of a room for us to change our clothes given that we were so early. The receptionist was so helpful and swapped our designated room (since it was being cleaned) with one that was available and booked us into it which was a great bonus to us and made life so much easier. We attended a function at the hotel and the service was very good. They even put out takeaway boxes for the leftover food. We also went to Paco's restaurant in the hotel during our stay and the food and the service were lovely. This was our second time at this hotel and we would definitely return.

There was nothing I did not like, however, if I were to make a negative comment it would be to say that the hotel brochure in the room was shabby and could do with being updated.

We returned very late at night following a concert along with other parties. The bar staff made us feel very welcome.

      Unfortunately we had noisy neighbours.

Nothing - have stayed a few times before so knew what it was like.

Bar food only was tried, but quick and satisfactory

Breakfast is not included in the cost, parking is a public car park across the road.

The bar and restaurant were very good. The food in the restaurant was of an exceptional standard and very reasonably priced. The bed was very large and quite comfortable

The room was tiny, the television was tiny and we paid £150 for this, which is extortionate - especially as it doesn't include breakfast in the price. It was stupidly high priced for a mediocre hotel.

Staff very pleasant & helpful, breakfast good and reasonable location for both countryside & city visits.

The corridor was exceptionally noisy due to a party of schoolchildren who were shouting and banging doors in the early evening and again until after midnight.

A very pleasant spacious room, and all members of staff were really good. Lovely views from the bar.

could do with a luggage support rack for unpacking. For myself, there was not an economic option for a bowl of cereal and a coffee for breakfast

The hotel bar smelled of stale beer, awful.

Good size room, clean and tidy. Cheap happy hour meals. They provided earlier breakfast for those like me needing it for Great North Run.

No onsite parking though long stay parking just behind hotel was very cheap (£1 a day). Price?? it was the cheapest I could find that was available on the Great North Run weekend but £145 for room only was a lot and cooked breakfast was £12.50 when all I wanted was scrambled egg on toast.

Very helpful staff at reception and conveniently situated for visiting our friends.

Only minor shortcoming was that breakfast was not included in the £75 per night room charge. We did order the full English breakfast [£9.90 each] on both mornings and had no complaint as to quality or quantity.
