It's nice to have everything right there, of course, and that comes at a price unfortunately, however, if you're in Monterey, you want to visit many places anyway and so it didn't affect us at all to not dine at the hotel.
The room was clean and the price was less than what we paid at the Monterey Bay Lodge the night before, and that hotel room was smaller, hotter, and not on the beach.
This hotel is an excellent value for the location.
Overall for the price, it was a great hotel and I'd defintely go back.
A great location as this property was located right on the Monterey Bay beach.
I have stayed at the Hyatt (read my review) The Clarion (read my review) and the Marriott (please read my review) NONE of the above hotels' come close to the hospitality of the staff at the Monterey Beach Hotel OR the location.
Hotel is on great location, however, it is looking tired.
There was a little foot traffic understandably because of being on the first floor but it was totally fine because the hotel has two privacy screens to draw.
Quite close to the airport - was not disturbed though - only found out when I had to get directions to change my hire car.
There is also an odd arrangement with the bathrooms, where the sink is outside, open to the bedroom, while the toilet and tub/shower are closed off by a louvered door, which is not at all soundproof!
The rooms are compact (but there are 2 double beds in each room) and a bit old-fashioned, but otherwise clean and comfortable enough (and with cable TV).
Don't waste your money on the ocean-view rooms because the cheap windows in the rooms and the way the beds are set up will not allow you to enjoy the view (again, imagine trying to enjoy a great view from a Motel 6 room).
The room did not have a bath tub and was furnished with pretty shabby furniture.
The room was spacious and clean, and the bed was enormous.
Montereys Fish House (fabulous Calamari - stick with fish dishes, and popular with the locals so gets crowded), Old Monterey Cafe (great breakfast), Elli's Great American Restaurant, and The Breakfast Club (Fremont Street).
We ate one dinner and one breakfast at the restaurant on the top floor.
We tried the restaurant for breakfast and evening meal, and received excellent service at all times.
We decided to have a meal in the restaurant as the hotel was quite away from any other restaurants.
Our $224 plus tax rate included 2 full breakfasts at the hotel restaurant.
We had terrible service when contacting the front desk to make reservations, and they told us to book over the internet to find the best rates.
The lobby bar had great service but the front desk and the restaurant employees weren't very friendly and didn't go out of their way to please.
The front desk staff were not good with directions a couple different times we asked for assistance.
The grounds include a large swimming pool and spa on the garden side.
For the most privacy, I would try to stay away from the first floor as people are walking by a little more than you'd probably like because it's how you get to the parking lot or the lobby or the restaurant.
It has nicely kept-up grounds, lots of flowers, a beautiful lobby, nice pool, and a restaurant with a great view.
The television had a good channel selection and the wireless connectivity worked without incident.
The rooms were spotless and very clean, of course this is a 45 year old property and DIREECTLY on the beach so it may be dark and damp, but that's the price we pay for the view.
If your loking for good value, great service, family and dog friendly, clean and comfortable; rooms, gardens and pool, on the beach, look no further.
Our room was clean and comfortable with a great view of Monterey Bay.
The super clean, comfy and sizeable room, the beautiful ocean outside our door and the friendly staff made this nothing but a positive experience for us and we can't wait to go back.
I have never been to a hotel where it was absolutely SPOTLESS and that always makes me feel so much better about hotel rooms.
