      We did look in on the Volkov Hotel; it is quite a bit less expensive and in a wonderful, very central, location.

      Rooms were spacious, and reasonably comfortable, but in no way luxurious.

      It seemed very pleasant and cheerful, and the room we saw was quite nice, although smaller than the one at the Beresta.

      It is a Western style "conference" hotel; big lobby, restaurant, tennis courts, etc.

      A short 5 minute walk away is a terrific Italian restaurant - Napoli - that I highly recommend.

      The front desk people were very cordial and went out of their way to be helpful.

          What we found inside was 1) a very friendly staff that spoke excellent English and really tried to make us feel welcome, 2) comfortable rooms with spotless bathrooms, 3) an excellent selection at the breakfast buffet, and 4) a nice view of the river. A short 5 minute walk away is a terrific Italian restaurant - Napoli - that I highly recommend.
