I probably wouldn't stay here again, but since we booked last minute, we only paid half price for our flights and hotel, so I feel like we got excellent value for our money, and overall, I was satisfied with our trip.

Secondly, I have a problem with any hotel that tries to hold their customers hostage to their in house telephone service and internet service that costs 10 times normal prices.

If you want some good prices on jewelry, go to the booths on the road up by the hotel and there is one lady, the last booth farthest from the beach who makes beautiful necklaces and bracelets.

We continue to stay at La Jolla because of the good value, great service, and the absolutely amazing location away from the tourist nightmare in the hotel district in town.

Furthermore because of the location, it is located in the hills and 20 minutes away from town, it makes going out at night nearly impossible and quite dangerous considring how the people drive around there!

One was the "fun pool" where all the activities and the swim up bar are located, another is the "hot pool", where it is best to go after noon as the sun is shining best in that location.

The real benefit of the premium is the location – it’s your call on how much the view and proximity to the water is worth in terms of your dollar.

Barcelo is the last resort south of Puerto Vallarta and taxi is $270 pesos and 40 minutes from airport.

A COUPLE TIPS: When heading to your hotel from the airport, have your taxi driver stop at the grocery store that's enroute and load up on essentials.

Ours was the basic room, which is a suite, with a sitting room, nice bathroom, bedroom with comfortable king size bed, and another couch and table and chairs before the big balcony.

This was a room with a king bed in one room and another bedroom with 2 twin beds.

When it just had a king size bed-- La Jolla staff were happy to accomadate them to the two bedroom/two bath suite.

Our room was fantastic - the standard is a 2 bedroom, 2 bath - they "upgraded" our one-bedroom suite when we arrived, but I think they only have 2 bedrooms.

The bed was uncomfortably hard, the sheets were of a low and uncomfortable thread count, and there was no in-room seating in the 2 bedroom suite (the 1 bedroom suite had seating, but the bedroom was located in back and was dark and dingy).

Although we did not eat at all the restaurants, my 14 year old like the buffet and the snack bar and they had a very good variety at every meal, the food and the staff were wonderful.

One day we ate in the restaurant and ordered a wonderful 3 course lunch but mostly we ate in the snack bar which had wonderful food from sandwiches to fish to tacos and even ice cream!

We mostly ate at the snack bar for lunch and the buffet for breakfast and dinner.

The food was variable with excellent breakfasts and lunch buffets in the restaurant that had the world's greatest view overlooking the ocean.

Once we tried the buffet (serves breakfast, lunch and dinner) we ate there for every meal because the food was fantastic and there was something for everone-even my husband who likes his burger and fries.

1) The service is the best we have ever had in mexico, the front desk staff is wonderful.

Front desk staff was almost rude, especially Nelly the concierge.

The resort also had an internet access area, a book exchange (you have to leave a book to take one, you can’t just go in and get one), a spa, gym and steam room, tennis courts, clothing store, mini market, souvenir shop and a jewelry store.

The lobby is very nice and elegant with huge chandalers and big statue with a waterfall in the background, The grounds itself are green and lush with flowers and the pool waterfalls are spectacular.

Jacuzzi : They have two Jacuzzis one next to the relax pool and one next to the activity pool (water polo water volleyball and water basketball ).

95 a night hotel has free high speed wireless internet and free local calls, it's time for this hotel (and others) to stop trying to double their profits on internet and phone service.

I'd like it if they had wireless, but won't go there (it's a place for Holiday)!

Grounds were spotless, pools clean and warm, Hot tubs were actually hot.

The entire resort was spotless, bathrooms, lounge areas, pool areas, everything was kept so clean and neat it was hard to believe the hotel was almost full.

The rooms are spacious, clean, and have excellent views.

The rooms were nice and were kept clean on a daily basis.

The swimming pools are clean and plentiful with many waterfalls and swim-throughs, and the two hot tubs were nice.

    The resort is very beautiful, set far from town, but not too far (a $13 cab ride to downtown, $28 from airport). It's on the ocean foothills of a beautiful jungle and every room (I think) has a partial or full ocean view. We were on the 2nd floor of tower 1 and had a gorgeous, HUGE room, very beautifully decorated with a partial, I'd call it almost full ocean view also overlooking gorgeous pools. The perks were: the room, the bed, the staff, particularly the bartenders at the cantina, the pools, the "nice" restaurants (we went to Don Quixote and Los Arcos (which is really just the snack bar converted at nite, but the food was very good), the conceirge, super helpful, the spa, best massage ever. The cons were: food at buffet wasn't great, a few bugs found in our room (but the staff took care off this quickly and we were in a jungle).

    We arrived to get a room on the 2nd floor over the inlet next door. The room was nice and roomy but we looked at the shanty area next door.

    The food and beverages through the all inclusive were terrible.

    Food was great at all the restaurants, with too many choices. Asked to be moved to a different room, one that had just been redone in the kind of Asian style deco. We talked to another family with the same kind of suite in bldg#1, and they described there room beautifully decorated and new with decorations with an Asian flair. And do not ask for an extra bed, it was more like an old army cot.

    The NOT ok: We had five people in our room, and they kept on bringing us only 2 towels , had to call at least 2 times per day to get any more. They inisisted that the one we were in was just remodeled, I could not believe this because the bathroom was kind of cruddy, tile grout was dis-colored, fixtures were dull, and there was an odd smell coming from the drain in the shower.

    Everything from the flight, transfer to the hotel, room, food, pool, bar was excellent. I had read about the bed bugs and brought insect repellent. The beds were literally the most comfortable we had ever slept on. The food in Capri and Don Quixote was excellent, as was the buffet, with plenty of choices all very well prepared.

    I explained that was impossible, because we only ate at his hotel and we took bottled water with us everywhere we went. The service from Saturday through Wednesday was outstanding. There was a work- out room with enough equipment to keep you in shape. The food buffet has a good variety of foods and the staff does a good job of keeping the buffet line full.

    As I looked over to my left I noticed this poor woman who was deathly ill and was complaining to the staff. I felt so terrible, my daughter went to the front desk and a doctor was called. Again, I went to the front desk and 6-hours later the doctor arrived.

    They looked newly remodeled and they were huge with a sitting area, modern bathroom, and patio. Staff - we had a wonderful time with the staff at Barcelo. The buffet was delicious with a good variety of good. Fresh seafood, great atmosphere in the jungle, great service, it is definitely an experience.

    The service around the pool is almost non-existant. They had one waitress for both pools, so it was very hard for her to keep up. Before there was at least 3-4 waiters at each pool. Even cups flooting in the pool, which I also blame the guests for that! There is no food allowed at the pool, most likely because there aren't enough service people to clean-up, they said because of pest problems?

    We got our own coffee, juice, water, We ate, left and never once had anyone come to our table. Rooms are the same as when were there in 2000 and 2004.

    As many have commented the rooms could use an upgrade but it was comfortable and housekeeping kept everything orderly and clean. I would recommend this location to anyone who wants to do a "whole bunch of nothing".

    The staff were not particularly helpful except for the bellman who was great, and had experience (he told us about the ins and outs of the hotel). The food is good, and all you need to do is step out onto the streets for some yummy homemade cooking for great prices.

    Let's begin with the rooms (by the way we asked to see 7 rooms. Yes there are bed bugs which is unacceptable. I had a leg wax at the spa and was 1st degree burned as a result of the application of too hot wax, but truly this could have happened with any another individual.

    Food was great we stayed 2 adults and 2 children we always found something at the buffet that pleased everyone.

    Although I do have to agree with the reviews that the rooms are very old and out dated.
