• bellissimo resort

  Sono stato con la mia moglie ed i miei figli in vacanza a Natale 2007 tramite EDEN VIAGGI. Ottima struttura di grandi dimensioni (5 resort intercalati da giardini curatissimi) di cui 3 direttamente sul mare e due (il Casino e il Golf) a qualche minuto a piedi; il tutto dislocato su una spiaggia di sabbia bianca privata di 3.5 km (su 20km di passeggiata lungomare); l'offerta di ristoranti è varia e di buon livello di offerta e varietà(4 buffet+ 4 ristoranti serviti: italiano, mexico, pesce, steak house). La nostra camera quadrupla di 45 mq prevedeva piano di camera doppia + bagno e soppalco con letto matrimoniale+bagno che meriterebbe una rinfrescata nelle finiture. l'offerta all inclusive include anche l'utilizzo delle attrezzature per sport acquatici quale vela (laser) e windsurf; bene anche il miniclub dove lo staff italiano ha intrattenuto piacevolmente i miei figli di 9-11 anni. Da non perdere lo spettacolo TROPICALISSIMO (tenuto da un cast numeroso di professionisti e orchestra dal vivo di 9 elementi). Sicuramente da ritornarci.

  The food at the Casino Buffet is great for breakfast and the Mexican Restaurant at the Barcelo Beach is very good (the waiters are nice). The staff and bartenders are extremely friendly and are a lot of fun. We did not request this suite and it was no extra charge and it was really neat. The room might have been a little out of date, but still very comfortable and for the most part clean.

  They do NOT water down their drinks and you can have as many as you wish and you can try as many different drinks as you wish. We had a two story room with two bathrooms and it could have slept eight.

  Travel to and from the airport was fine half hour delays at both ends no big deal. The rooms are large and dark, the beds not that comfortable. Casino, the Beach and the Caribe restaurants than the Golf but you can get great fresh fruits and vegetables at any of them. As for the staff I disagree VERY strongly with the person who suggested they were crabby!

  I had to change my room because it was indeed very musty smelling.

  We slept in the king size bed up in the loft and it did not have king size bottom sheets which meant that your feet were on the bare mattress. The food was quite nice and each buffet restaurant had something special like the chinese stir fry at the Casino hotel or the grill at the Golf hotel. The staff was very accommodating and pleasant. We had been informed by several desk employees that the resort charges $35 each to people wishing to come spend the day so we relayed the information to our friends.

  We were surprised to get a suite with five beds and two bathrooms, which was excessive for two people but okay. The decor needs to be brighter and updated especially the bedding. Room lighting is poor and you need to strike a match to see if the lights are on.

  The Golf resort they put us in consists of a lobby, 1 pool and a bunch of crappy a*s rooms. Our room (for 2 of us) had SIX DIFFERENT beds in it. 2 beds in one area, 3 other beds in the next room, and 1 upstairs. To make matters worse- the Golf resort insisted that the Beach or Caribe resorts had no extra rooms. But after investigating for ourselves we found a dozen or more EMPTY rooms. After speaking to the front desk at the Caribe- he quietly admitted that YES they indeed had extra rooms. But there were ALOT of pissed off people who wanted to transfer and felt ripped off.

  The beds were small, with white sheets only, brown walls, brown furniture and dark and musty.

• Searching for good food was an ongoing problem. I wish there were microwaves in the room so you could take out whatever you found that was good to eat and save it for the hard times. From there we sat at the bar by the beach and enjoyed the ocean breezes. The ribs weren’t good and the rib steak was so small and tough I had trouble eating it. The restaurant in the Casino hotel (Mirador) was very good that night. I still like the Dominican Republic, but I would rather visit another resort that has a more friendly staff, much better food and drinks, cleaner accommodations and more English speaking staff.

  The room was brown and dated as mentioned in a previous review.

  The transfer to the hotel was under 15 minutes. Golf area of this 5-hotel resort and we were forgotten by the shuttle on the way home! ACCOMODATIONS: We were surprised to be upgraded to a larger room (free of charge) upon arrival. The two of us had a two-storey suite with 5 beds in 3 bedrooms (a king-size one up on a loft area), 2 full bathrooms and 2 balconies! We enjoyed the lunch/dinner buffets at the Caribe and the Beach resorts best because of the variety, and the pizza place was great for late-night snacks. The seafood restaurant is highly recommended, but the steakhouse wasn't our favourite! As for the drinks, we found we had much better service at either the Beach or Caribe bars then at the Golf. BEACH & POOLS: The beach was beautiful and the water fairly clear, just a little cloudy after the one rainfall we had all week (to be expected). Golf's pool was very quiet, but the pool areas at the Beach and Caribe were more active since that is were the activity staff did most of their work.

  Our group was not small, we had 108 people and we stayed at all the major hotels, within the resort - Golf, Caribe (used to be called Garden), Beach and Palace. We found the people to be very friendly, outgoing and glad to make you happy any way they could. From our arrival at the airport to our departure, we were treated cordially, amicably and with utmost respect. We arrived before noon and most of the rooms were ready, this is a most difficult time as other guests are vacating and the rooms are being cleaned. Not one party had a problem with their room reservation not being on record, some waited an hour or two to get in their rooms, but the views, grounds and ambiance are so marvelous that it made little difference. The rooms were ample and clean, no bugs, no falling ceilings or any of the inconveniences some have mentioned.

  On New Years Day we went to the lobby to anxiously await the arrival of our friends -but they never showed. We had found out from the front desk worker that all 34 Canadians that were coming that day and booked at the Villas had been taken to the Barcelo Golf. The front desk worker whispered to us that they were taken to this hotel because there were so many complaints about the Villas. They would not transfer us to be with our friends nor would they transfer our friends back. After placing numerous phone calls to our travel agent and to Sunquest. It was still inconvenient as we had to go back to the Villas to our room at night. Better accomodations, food, service, pools, etc.
