  The staff were all polite and helpful, in fact there were so many waiters at mealtimes that they were falling over themselves to serve. At times we were served by 4 or 5 different waiter at once and found it quite amusing. What wasn't so funny though was the food at dinner; the 'seasonal vegetables' mentioned on the menu usually consisted of half cooked potatoes in various guises which we supplemented with ice-cold carrots and broccolli from the buffet.

  Food was reasonable to good all through and they were very willing to accommodate changes if you wanted something different from the menu. The pool was OK and the sunbeds and towels free and in reasonable supply. The elememnt that moved this from average to above average was the wiating staff.

  The front facing rooms are on the only road and can be noisy with all the mopeds but double glazed doors shut most of it out. Rear facing rooms look into a cliff side, not inspiring but quieter.

  The bus service into town is good but if you want to stay in town late you have to rely on the taxis, which are hugely expensive (anything up to 20 euros).

  We got off to a bad start with the Atlantic Palace, when we arrived to find that they had screwed up their bookings and left us without a room for the first night of our stay. Not only that, we were banished to their 'sister' hotel even further away from town, situated on a petrol station and which was of inferior stars and quality - and with faulty air conditioning. Far from apologising, the hotel manager was argumentative and clearly comes from the 'customer is always wrong' school of thought. The waiting staff, however, were generally polite. The view from our window was of a wall at the back of the building.

  The food was good with a wide range of choice, both at breakfast and dinner. Also the restaurant, foyer and bar were well decorated, and the swimming pool area was a pleasant area to sit. However, the hotel has 15 scheduled shuttle bus runs each day apart from Friday, and the local bus runs every 20 minutes at a cost of only 1 Euro.

  Yes the coffee is different however a simple request for a capuchino is all it took and the restaurant staff were happy to provide this at no additional cost every morning. The choice of food was good and special requests for the children were well received. The rooms are clean and the maid service is good although a 4 star rating is a little generous.

  The bar entertainment leaves a lot to be desired and also closed a little early - it is sometimes enjoyable to sit and relax in the bar for a night cap following an evening in the town. One tip if you hire a car - do not park it to the far left hand side where the waiters park their scooters; we did this and the car got damaged.

  However we left our bags at reception and had a drink outside by the pool in the sunshine which was no hardship. The room was a good size compared to other Italian 4* hotels we had stayed at, and most importantly it was air conditioned. They were cleaned everyday with fresh towels left daily. The room had a large balcony which was great in the evening for a glass of wine before heading out or for breakfast in the mornings. We went on a room only basis, but the shop in the campsite opposite sells plenty of food to keep you happy. The shuttle bus was a good and useful service that we used everyday (apart from Friday when it does not run) you have to pre-book, but this was never a problem and even if you don't pre-book or you miss your allocated time you can catch the next one. We only used the hotel bar once and it seemed fine. The swimming pool area was clean and we never had a problem getting sun loungers.

  Upon arrival, my only criticism would be that our room was not ready, even though check in was from 2pm and we arrived at 3.

  We thought it had generally good facilities and found it quiet and very clean. The staff were (almost all) friendly and helpful and the while the food was not cordon bleu, it was certainly perfectly good enough and plentiful. The rooms were spacious and in a good decorative state. The air-conditioning was turned off by reception during the day, when we were out, but a quick call to reception soon sorted it out and cooled the room delightfully. The pool is not large and occasionally ran out of towels, but was quite adequate for sunbathing and a cooling dip after a day out. The hotel’s location is not great, but the hotel shuttle bus into town is handy and the local buses stop just outside anyway. The shop in the campsite opposite is very useful for water, snacks and most of the sundries you might need. All in all, if you’re after a very comfortable, quiet hotel as a base for touring the Sorrento area, you could do an awful lot worse than the Atlantic Palace.

  The hotel is exceptionally clean, all the staff were very helpfull and all spoke good English. The pool and pool area were also very good, being cleaned every morning. They do have every evening two guys, one singing and one on a keyboard which is just too cheesy (If you can remember when French & Saunders had their TV Show years ago and they had the two guys Raw Sex performing. One thing i would add though if you are told that the transfer time from Naples to Sorrento is 1 hour then its lies all lies!

  We found all the staff were excellent and nothing was a problem for them. The hotel does run a handy courtesy bus service into and out of Sorrento. However you do need to book in advance at reception and it doesn’t run on Friday’s. During the times it’s not available you can get on the local bus service ( tickets purchased before you get on from the hotel reception ) which is somewhat reliable or you can play chicken and walk. Obviously there’s also a large amount of restaurants in Sorrento but don’t expect to find anything but Italian food.

  If you don’t want to eat in the hotel there is the camping shop across from the hotel ( closed from 12 – 4pm ) or there is a superb pizza take away place about 3 mins walk up the road from the hotel.

  The hotel was nice and clean- great breakfast buffet and the barman- Pasquale-was one of the highlights of our holiday! The hotel has a nice pool and there were plenty of sun loungers. We went to a restaurant about 200m closer to the centre of the town than the hotel for dinner one evening -can't remember the name-and had an amazing meal -well worth a try if you don't fancy going into Sorrento itself.
