Astoria Capsis Hotel

Very convenient location, located next to the old town of Heraklion and walking distances from a variety of outdoor cafes.

The location is amazing- very close to the Archeological Museum, as well as what looked to be the best shopping in Heraklion.

The hotel although the rooms were small was fine with an acceptable standard and also a good location in the centre of Heraklion so lots of food outlets nearby.

Starting the day with a nice swim was impossible, and coming back from a hot bus-ride to Knossos and Jouchtas just before 19 o'clock , it was again impossible to cool down!

The one oddity is the sinks in the bedroom as the toilet/bathroom is so small however the room is comfy and has a good tv and air con system its also next to the museum.

Rooms & Bed were good, the swimming pool was small.

Our room had a double-sized bed and another small cushioned-couch that doubled as a twin-sized bed.

While the room was comfortable, the double bed definately was not!

It was, by far, the hardest (most firm) bed we'd ever encountered.

Room service food was excellent, the roof-bar was lovely-a cool oasis in a rather hot and the breakfast was quite good.

The breakfast is great with a good selection of food and good service.

The breakfast was included, and it was phenomenal.

Just a step from the most turist attractions, bars and restaurants.

But there was one big mistake: We chose this hotel for its swimming-pool and bar on the roof - but to our dismay it was only open from 11 to 19 o'clock.

Front desk staff spoke English and were generally courteous, although some staff members seemed to us a little less courteous and patient than others.

In addition the hotel was lovely and the staff were friendly and helpful.

We did not go back to "Atlantis", quite close, because the pool is no longer on the roof but downstairs.

Better a pool in the dark than no pool at all!

The rooftop pool was refreshing and offered splendid views of the city and sea.

The wireless Internet is fast and quite cheap (but not free).

The staff was excellent, the room was very clean and the buffet table was great offering various foods to people.
