We had asked for the cheapest room (bargained a little off the price, which is quite normal in Brazil but you need to speak Portuguese) and ended up looking over a big fan outside the hotel and just walls.
But if that is the case, then rent in Gloria or somewhere like that, save the money, and cab between the hotel and the Ipanema area.
Because there are so few moderate priced hotels near the beach in Rio, most people wouldn't mind paying the extra 16%, that the Arpoador chooses to get by tricking their guests.
Location is the best: the best location in the best beach, the hotel is as said before extremely well located and great water pressure in the shower.
The staff quickly recommended nearby restaurants that we excellent and great location.
As everbody else also wrote, the location is perfect.
You need to get to lifeguard station Posto 9 (or the nearer Posto 8) for the interesting crowd.
Imagine it, cars, buses and trucks roaring past day and night?

I did like the rooms, we had on oceanview room and we woke up everymorning with the sound of the ocean.
