We had a pleasant 3 nights at the hotel but overall it was 'OK' for the money we paid.
Location all excellent, appleby is well situated for the Lake District and the hotel would have been fabulous about 20 years ago.
An excellent location for touring the Lakes and the hotel description looked perfect.
Public areas are very impressive, the hotel is in an excellent location and the service is good.
Great location easy access for the lakes and this hotel is ideal for a relaxing weekend break.
Great rural location to get away from tourists of Lake District in August close enough for day trip and the hotel is very comfortable.
A suggestion is to take the local train to Skipton and travel over the Ribblesdale Viaduct (You can walk to the station from the Hotel).
Bedroom again not large but it had a huge bed which took up a lot of room - have stayed in worse so called 4* rooms elsewhere.
Our room was one of the new executive deluxe rooms, very nice decoration and the jacuzzi bath and bathroom tv were a blessing after a busy day.
Massive bed, flat screen television, and the bathroom had a jacuzzi bath with television and I have to say plenty of toiletries like a face cloth, shower cap, soap, shampoo and shower gel, (all of which I brought home!
I was apprehensive on booking appleby manor after last two reviews, but was pleaseantly surprised with the welcome we received on arrival, we stayed in one of the newly refurbished rooms which were great, i loved the bath room tv.
The bathrooms and rooms in extension are actually roomier than the so-called 'classier' room tried.
The bar was fine to go and get a drink before your evening meal, but all lights were off/dimmed and the conservatory locked off by the time you came back through from the restaurant area.
The staff in the restaurant could not be faulted for breakfast or dinner.
The staff are very good and the Veggie breakfast was excellent so are evening meals such a problem.
When we went down to dinner, we were greeted at the bar and were brought menus when we sat down in the lounge.
Breakfast good, nice variety and hot food cooked to order.
I have to say the staff were extremely friendly and efficient, but their efforts to provide a good service were let down by a cheap bed and a manager who couldn't be bothered dealing with a complaint.

The hotel staff were incredibly friendly, the service was very good and in one bathroom the cold water ran hot at odd times was dangerous.
Hotel spotlessly clean, friendly staff and warm reception to the comfortable bedroom.
Leisure facilities ok, swimming pool tiny and cold but ok for a dip, sauna not particularly hot, steam room good, jacuzzi, not as warm as my bath (Ho ho).
The pool area was rundown, the spa water was dirty and the new sauna did not work.
The hotel swimming pool is quite small but does provide the opportunity for exercise.
The room was well presented and kept clean and tidy.
Staff very friendly and helpful, nice clean quiet room, in the restaurant we experienced discreet.
