In the past I have thought Italian hotels to be dated and overpriced but Villa Marta is hopefully part of a new trend in small , high standard hotels in Italy.
The location is also very good: tucked away in the countryside, but still very close to the historical center of Lucca.
Sadly, we departed for another location in southern Tuscany for the remainder of the trip.
For the rest enjoy the rather peacefull location and if your leg feel up yo it there are some truly amazing walks to do.
Our only problem was that we did not have our owntransport and it was quite expensive to get in and out of Lucca by taxi although the hotel did organise this for us and at a fixed rate, they also organised a transfer to Pisa airport for us.
It proved very convenient to the airport (but do print off their directions from the website) and we enjoyed the following morning in Lucca.
Watch, when you go out for dinner, someone comes into your room and gets your bed ready for sleeping.
It was gorgeous - a king bed, beautiful view of the chapel and pool, and bathroom with walk-in shower large enough for two.
The room was nicely appointed with a comfortable bed and all the basics we would expect.
The rooms were decorated in a lovely country style, the service was fantastic and the bathroom had a large shower.
The rooms and bathrooms are beautifully decorated to a high standard, as is the entire hotel.
The staff could not have been more helpful, the food was very good (breakfast is included and we ate lunch there one day), the pool was perfect and the setting is peaceful.
Unfortunately not, it was average, we had eaten much better meals in the small famliy run restaurants in Barga at the start of our trip.
The bathrooms were large as well and the food in the restaurant was lovely.
The staff was friendly, the room itself was lovely and spacious, the food at the restaurant was excellent.
We ate twice at a nearby restaurant, La Cecca, which was excellent and frequented by local people.
Beautiful garden swimming area, the service - family run hotel - was excellent and the staff greeted us warmly - Debora at the front desk was lovely.
Also the service of the staff was excellent, our rooms were large enough and the food was very good.
Friendly staff, helpful receptionist and our room was beautiful.
The staff were gracious, friendly and proficient--especially the four delightful young ladies who man the reception desk.
There is plenty of free parking and there is also a pool which is appreciated in warm weather.
We found the villa absolutely charming with a wonderful garden and pool.
Beautiful garden swimming area with comfy loungers, sitting area and very attentive yet inobtrusive service by the pool.
We were very pleased with our room which was large, very clean and very well appointed.
Light & clean rooms and incredible kitchen.
In addition the rooms were clean and charming, breakfast was good.
