Fortunatly i got a special offer (50 euro + vat per room per night), so i could spent 2 days in a 3star hotel for the price of a pension.
This, and its sister hotel, were absolutely excellent in this regard.

Near centre of town on tramline to the old town guggenheim, a proper hotel - not like a holiday inn express and the staff are kind and helpful.

Now the bad: While they do have parking, no one tells you that it's 16 euros a day.
