Based upon a customer recommendation and a travel agents booking these business trips can always be a bit hit and miss. Espcially when the customer (i.e me) has certain requirements froma business hotel when away from home!!
The location is quiet and not far from the Amrican Embassy and the bar de Lista and other restaurants (Recomend Le Farmacia Tapas, very good and a 5 minute walk away). The set up for the restaurant/bar (the latter is not what you would call a traditional bar in as much as the 'cleaner' has to be summoned to get you a beer from the fridge, and this service shuts at 11.30 as does room service, which is minimalistic to put it mildly). That having been said it was always clean and pleasant, although beware of the tables...square tables with a huge hole in the middle which you think is glass until you put a glass on top..much meeriment is had by all!!!
So the room. This is a 4 star hotel in a capital city, charging €170/ night. No iron, Air Con which doesn;t work, poor lighting so it was like a cave most of the day, and not much room for cat swinging. It was clean but very basic. Hot water was tepid although shower good. Internet access was expensive via wirless (Swisscom) and unreliable, plus the lack of real sace meant work was a wee bit cramped.
all in all this was a diappointing experience. Especially since I attended an event in the Hotel Urban in the City Centre. They charged €190/night and appears to be altogether a much better set up, and nicer hotel.

Stayed here for 3 nights. Rooms are fine and very clean. Staff are very friendly and extremely helpful. Reception staff were very helpful with providing directions, locations to visit and making reservations with restaurants etc. Breakfast buffet is OK lots of healthy options. Also lots of bars with very good tapas nearby but make a reservation as it is difficult to get a table at nightime without one. Shuttle to airport for €18.00pp but if there are more than one it is easier and cheaper to take a taxi approx €25.00. About a 25 min walk to main tourist attractions but very easy to find your way around..for some reason they decided to have very straight streets in Madrid!! you can't go wrong!! Also very convenient for getting back to the airport.

My husband and I were invited to speak to students at a university in Madrid and they put us up in this hotel. We found it to be very pleasant. The room was clean, well decorated and roomy. The staff was very accomodating and there was at least one English speaking person on staff at all times. It is located away from most the hustle and bustle of Madrid and it takes about a ten minute metro ride to get to most of the tourist attractions. But the metro is very nearby, easily accessible and cheap. In all honesty, the metro system in Madrid was one of the easiest and cleanest systems we've used in Europe. So if you don't mind a little walk and ride to most of your destinations, this is a great value for Madrid. It is also a very fast ride to the airport in a taxi, so it's good if Madrid is the first or last stop on a European vacation.
Some words of caution, don't pay the 30 Euro for the 24 hour wireless connection. It is so slow and frustrating, you'll be wishing you just went downstairs to use the business office. Also don't eat the buffet breakfast at the hotel. It's overpriced and doesn't offer that much. You would be better off walking down to a nearby cafe or cafeteria.
