Let me clarify...we arrived at the hotel shortly after a massive thunderstorm rolled through the area. The hotel was running on generators for basic services but there were still customers they had to deal with and they made the best of a bad situation. We were told that the eletric company gave an estimate of about 10 hours before power would be restored so we had a decision to make...wait it out or try to get a different hotel. The staff helped those who decided to leave find other hotels without hesitation. Some decided to go to other hotels...we decided to stay. Since the keys would not work, one of the staff members walked us up to our room and let us in with their master key and would do the same thing each time someone needed into their room. We never heard a complaint from any of the staffers or saw anything but pleasant faces despite the situation. After we were there for a couple of hours, we called down to the front desk for status of the electricity. We were told that they were calling the electric company every 30 minutes to keep the customers updated and that power would be restored from in 1 to 4 hours. After about 4 hours, the power was restored.
The rest of our stay was great. The breakfast was pretty standard hotel fare but was still good. I agree with a previous review that it was crowded but it seemed to go in waves and was busiest between 7:00 and 8:00. The crowd seemed much smaller after 8:00 if you can wait.
The shuttle was very convenient. It runs as needed between the hotel and the metro station. Upon arrival to the Shady Grove metro station, we would simply call the hotel for the shuttle and it would be there within 5 minutes. My only complaint was that there was only one shuttle and it was a minivan that held 7 people including the driver. The metro station was about a mile away so the shuttle returns quickly to pick up other people but it seemed to me that the demand was too much for one van.
Overall, our stay was good and certainly memorable...the property is older but it is clean and well maintained.

I stayed here for a week long training conference and had a very pleasant stay. The staff were very helpful and my room was clean and comfortable. The hotel is older, but they have done a very nice job keeping it clean and presentable. The breakfast room was quite crowded in the mornings so it would be nice to see them expand this area or open a second seating area.

Based on great reviews, we chose this hotel for our recent stay to visit relatives in the Gaithersburg area and would agree with the positive reviews. This is an excellent value for the services it provides: excellent complimentary breakfast, convenient shuttle to the Metro, and very helpful, friendly, and competent staff. For the price, it s a great value. I'm not sure I would have considered a Comfort Inn without the excellent reviews on this property, but this is definitely a fine option for staying in the Gaithersburg/Rockville area. It even has a well-equipped fitness center that exceeds what I would expect for this size of hotel. We had a problem with the TV remote that got addressed promptly when brought to their attention.
The breakfast has a wide variety of choices, so even though it doesn't change from day to day, your choices make it different for you each day. The elevators are exceptionally fast yet smooth. The building itself seems a bit dated, and the beds aren't the latest and greatest, but the rooms and bathrooms are kept clean and when you add in the superior service, it makes for a great overall value. We'll likely stay again, since we visit this area once a year.

HORRIBLE...... SMELLED, DIRTY, OLD, OVERPRICED
Friend stayed here. Visited him(I was at the Sheraton down the street) The hotel reaked with the smell of urine. Thank goodness I didn't have to stay here. The room was dark. They should remodel, or close down.

I was on a budget, traveling with a group of college students, and wanted to be near a metro stop north of DC. The Comfort Inn Shady Grove looked like it would fill the bill. It was much better than expected. Spotlessly clean, the rooms were comfortable and well equipped. Breakfast was hardly gourmet but was certainly acceptable. The staff were universally friendly, helpful, and attentive. We used the free shuttle to the metro with no problem although I would allow extra time as it only holds six and some folks were worried (when our group completely filled the van) that they wouldn't get where they were going in time. The metro station is walkable but it's not an nice walk--maybe a half mile down a busy congested road. It is only 4 or 5 dollars to park all day at the metro which might be the better alternative if you are on a tight schedule.
JJ Muldoons restaurant/bar is a short walk away and was fine for our group. Since we were a big group, a gratuity was automatically added to our bill. When we supplemented that with an additional amount, the waitress came back to make sure we knew that a tip had already been included. We appreciated her honesty!
I have stayed at much fancier, more expensive hotels where the staff were not nearly as pleasant and where the rooms had fewer amenities. The management clearly cares about the property and staying there was a pleasant experience.
