My husband and I traveled to San Luis Obispo in July of 2008. We had a wonderful experience at the San Luis Creek Lodge. The room we stayed in was a craftsmen style with a king-sized bed.
The room was decorated very tastefully and modern. It was clean and comfy. We had a fireplace and a lovely lounge chair along with a desk. The bathroom was very clean and modern with double sinks.
We stayed two nights on a Thursday and Friday night. There was a trolley car that ran down Monterey street and took you straight into downtown for 25 cents. The hotel is about a 20 minute walk from downtown San Luis Obispo.
We had a great time at the farmer's market on Thursday night. We ate at some really nice places with good food. San Luis Obispo is a really cute town and we loved the hotel we stayed at. It could not have been better.
The staff at the hotel were very personable and made us feel very welcome. We loved it and would definitely recommend it to others traveling through the area.

Beautiful hotel rooms, not your ordinary stuff. But when we opened the door to our room I could smell the bed. The bedspread and pillows have not been cleaned in how long? This is very disappointing especially when you see how nice the rooms are. We were in the Oxnard. The cute little curtain that is draped on the wall behind the bed was loaded with dust. I couldn't believe house keepers do not care enough to dust it off. The breakfest was great, the rooms were great but the bed smelled like musty old cloths. You could literally smell the yuck on your pillows from people that have drooled on them for years. It's like the sheets are the only thing they wash on the bed or replace. All the pillows on the bed stunk, there were other pillows for decoration. Too bad.

We booked the San Luis Creek Lodge following a pretty awful experience at a Hotel in Buellton where we paid $175 per night for a sub standard room in what seemed like a student dormitory judging by the noises going on all night. When we arrived at the SL Creek Lodge the staff were such a contrast to the last hotel and could not do enough for us, even allowing us to check in early to get some much needed rest. We stayed at the Craftsman building and the room was large and very well furnished. The original artwork on the walls was a nice touch and of a very high standard - we enquired on the artists and the hotel has since e-mailed to pass on information.
It is also worth noting that this hotel reads these reviews and appears to act on them - we saw direct evidence of this during our stay. This appears to be a hallmark of this hotel - they do seem to care. Unfortunatley, something rare these days in this industry.
We have travelled extensively in the USA and in Europe and have enjoyed the full spectrum of hotel experiences. It is no exaggeration to say that this small hotel is way up there on the positive experiences. It has the basics correct - cleanliness, quietness, responsive service and a price which does not make you feel as though you have just been fleeced. What puts it above the rest are the extra touches such as very friendly staff, good quality bathroom products, original art work, original hotel design, very well tendered gardens which mask the neighbouring hotels and a breakfast which is simple but more than adequate and which a bigger name hotel would charge you $20.
If you have the chance to visit this lovely area then we would highly recommend a visit to the San Luis Creek Lodge!!!

The hotel website speaks for itself. The room in the Londonderry was beautifully decorated with warm earth tones & updated tile work in the restroom. Our desire was to feel comfort & serenity in a plush style room. The large window looked out to the hillside and we watched a brown horse feed. Nice touch. The shower/tub with white robes...sweet .
Now as for the location...freeway access is convenient from the 101. There is a gas station down the street on Monterey & the lodge is approximately a mile from the heart of downtown. Walking there is not as bad as one would think. Down the street visit the Monterey St Wine Co. and also Central Coast Wines. The quarter trolley can also take you to your specific destination if you ask the driver.
My only disappointment was that bottled water was not included for the in room coffee and tea. Thumbs up for the SL Creek
