I found this place on the internet and thought that it looked quite nice and seemed cheap, it was exactly that.......cheap! Wasnt comfortable, no where to watch tv other than on your bed, there was a table and hard wooden chairs but the mount that the tv was on was broken and impossible to position to watch from there. There was room for a couch but there was just a large empty space. I was excited when I saw there was a window that opened until I realised the view I had was of a concrete wall about 2m from my window, so therefore no natural light, dark and dingy and depressing! No stereo as stated on the website and dustbunnies and hair in the corners of the room! Need I say more...........

Stayed for 3 nights over Easter for Rock 2 Wellington.
Very close to everything, the stadium is like 2 mins away, parliament, supermarket, shopping, trains. So close, so was very happy. Cant blame them for the guy doing the Huka at 3am one morning, police sorted to him. We were really happy with the room and am amazed how many snotty snobby reviews there are. Will go back next time there's a Rock 2 Wellington for sure!

My wife and I stayed here for one night only, and I would recommend it only for very short stays. The neighborhood seems a bit sketchy and is loud. We arrived after the lobby was closed, and had to dig for our key in the drop box, since we were never given a passcode. The room is very, very small seems to be filled with furniture from an old K-Mart (do they have those in NZ?).
This is a budget hotel, in a loud neighborhood, with a small room... if this is what you are looking for, The Aitken is for you... and I really do not know how this is rated 4th best in Wellington.

Was a bit worried before we arrived as I had already booked before reading the latest negative reviews so didn't know what to expect.
After reading about the noise from the construction site I sent off a last minute email requesting a room away from this area. The results were a bigger than average corner room away from the construction. It was very clean maybe even newly renovated. The down side was that it was on the 1st floor with one window facing a fairly busy street. This wasn't too bad as it was a long weekend which made that part of the city fairly quiet however we did have to sleep with the windows shut.
I liked being up this end of town and is was much quieter than other areas. No nightclubs to be heard.
Not sure I would stay here again but it suited our purposes very well for our visit.
