We were so disappointed. My husband and I have just returned from a European tour which included two days in Bingen where we took a boat tour on the Rhein (lovely and definitely worth doing, you see many many castles in such a short time). I booked the NH because it's one of the only "modern" hotels in this area, in other words it has an ensuite bath which most of the hotels do not. I SO wish I would have stayed in one of the quaint hotels in town even if it meant having to go down the hall to a bathroom, the NH was pretty awful, the ensuite bath was the ONLY thing it had going for it. The decor is so old and out of date, and not in an old world Europe knd of way, but in a scary retro kind of way, the fake green formica, yellow walls, gross carpeting and curtains falling off the window were definitely the low point of our trip. Oh and there was the TV remote control that was missing the back and did not even have a battery. Granted we weren't there to watch TV, nevertheless my husband took it down to show the desk clerk, who gladly got out a battery and some scotch tape....how efficient. Also skip the breakfast, it was not bad, in fact it was fine, but at $26.00 (we were not informed of the cost in advance and in fact thought it was included in the room cost, shame on us for not asking) it is WAY over priced. I would never stay here again and do plan on writing a complaint letter to the NH folks as soon as I finish this review.

We did a three night stay at the NH Bingen in conjunction with a family vacation.
NH Bingen is right on the banks of the Rhein river (beware, Mapquest and Google maps may provide confusing directions). The hotel is a maximum 20 minute walk from the train station, also on the edge of the Rhein river. Just cross the bridge heading east and you'll see the hotel on your left.
Smaller photos of the building you'll see give an impression of 70's architecture, but photos don't do the hotel justice. The architecture seems actually rather tasteful and modern, and a plaque inside the building appears to indicate the hotel was built in 1989.
The room we were given, room 301, was surprisingly tiny. The bed seemed to take up 3/4ths of the room. There's a shelf on which you can fit one suitcase and under it is space for shoes or whatever. The cabinet holds a minibar fridge. The view of room 301 was of the Rhein River and the beautifully sculpted vineyards along the sloping banks of Rüdesheim (the town on the Rhein opposite Bingen). The front of the hotel may have a bit of a view of a smaller river flowing out to the Rhein. The walkway on the Bingen side along the Rhein river was being renovated (and was closed off) during our stay, but I suspect it will be really pleasant once it's completed.
Room 301 was a smoking room and without the window open, when you walk in you'd be hit by a fragrant wall of cigarette mustiness. The friendly front desk people thankfully provided us with a fan (great to sleep with) and a couple extra pillows, which were huge and hard as a rock compared to the two flat & wimpy pillows that were already on the bed.
There are minimal amenities in the bathroom, as the hotel seems to be going with the eco-friendly "less is more" approach. You'll find little bottles of shampoo and conditioner and shower gel, and a tiny bar of tangerine scented glucose (?) soap. There are also massive bottles of "body / shampoo" gel affixed to the walls and I guess this is what is expected to be used to soap up top to bottom with. There were no hand towels in the room (wash cloths), so bring your own if you like these.
The TV in the room is small (but we didn't really get to watch any TV, as our remote control wasn't working), but the view from the window was much more worthwhile than any of the German shows on the TV (there is CNN and MSNBC International, tho, for anyone hard up for current events).
Wireless Internet is available in the room (provided by Swisscom) and is priced at the amount of 10 euros for one hour or 17 euros for 24 hours. There's also a fitness room I didn't get a chance to use, but my sister mentioned she got a great workout in it. There are no safes inside the room so I left my laptop computer at the front desk and they hid it in an office (smaller valuable items will go into the safe down there). The bag storage room was a nicely appointed (wood paneling) meeting room off to the side of the reception desk.
The fire alarm went off one of the nights were were at the hotel. the alarm in the hallway was not very loud from within room 301, and only half of the guests evacuated their rooms.
The breakfast buffet was very large and diverse. Breads & pastries on one table (along with cereals & milks). Hot dishes on another side (scrambled & hard boiled eggs, chicken nuggets & hash brown nuggets, different types of sausages, etc.), as well as a variety of cold cuts and vegetables and juices.
Overall, we felt the hotel was a good 3 star value for the price we paid (88 euros per night for a double room). Bingen in itself doesn't seem to have too much that would attract a tourist, but the location of the hotel on the river provides a great center from which to explore the Rhein region. Tourist boats pick up very close to the hotel and you can use these boats to get to & from towns on either side of the Rhein river. Trains run very often (sometimes as frequently as every five minutes, on both sides of the Rhein river) and generate quite a bit of noise, but the noise is mostly ambient and didn't bother me in the slightest.

We stayed here on 11 May 2006, on our way to Metzingen (Stuttgart area). We booked 4 rooms in the hotel through the internet (100% prepayed). Hotel staff is very toughtfull, as they rang me to check if we wanted twin or double beds. Check-in was quick and they were very friendly.
It was difficult to park the car. I suppose that normally there is enough parking space, except when there is something going on in the hotel's conference centre, and at the mean time the local disco (a few hundred meters away) opens and everyone comes to park at the hotel.
The hotel bar was closed! This was a pitty, because we could only get a drink from the hotel restaurant, where they were setting up everything for the morning breakfast buffet.
The rooms are very small and not very comfortable for a 4* hotel I must say: very small bathroom, small room with 2 small and uncomfortable beds, no nice pillows (normally NH has pillow menu...) and the Rhein view was disappointing, as we were on the 4th floor and the hotel's gutter was in front of the window.
The noise of the 2 nearby railways is annoying and all of our rooms were so hot that we were obliged to sleep with the window open.
The hotel was located conveniently for our purposes, but we wouldn't return here, nor recommend it to anyone else.

Very good value for the quality of the hotel and room. Food at the dining room was a bit pricey, but the breakfast buffet was quite nice.
10 minute walk from the railway station and 5 minutes to ferries for the Rhine(great place to stay if you want to see Rudesheim). This would normally be great BUT people and businesses in this area shut down at around 8 PM - it is VERY dark after due to poor streetlighting making the walk from the rail station (which includes a scary tunnel) unpleasant and creepy. We encountered no problems but felt very uncomfortable by the street lighting (the hotel itself though it lit up and easy to spot once you are on the street).
Make sure you have a good map because the streets will be EMPTY of people after around 8 PM if you need to ask directions.

Had planned to stay only one night and move on but extended my stay by two nights as soon as I checked in. The room was clean, quiet and comfortable. The hotel is near two railway lines but the noise was not disturbing, even with the window open. Stayed a Saturday night but the bar downstairs was not operating. All staff were friendly and helpful, and spoke English very well. The charming town centre is only a few minutes' walk away and the hotel overlooks the ferry docks and cycle path, with excellent scenic views of the river. Two train stations are within walking distance. Breakfast was good and the buffet extensive. Can highly recommend the NH Hotel Bingen as a base from which to explore the magnificent Rhine Valley - especially if you prefer modern accommodation.
