We spent our 21st anniversary here at the end of a New Zealand trip. They upgraded our standard room to a premium suite (I think because the hotel was full--we didn't ask). WOW! It was gorgeous. Lovely park view (the views on the other side are lousy); fabulous pillows, comfortable king-sized bed, kitchen with everything (including dishwasher), dvd player. Everything was new, spotless, and lovely. We found the location reasonably convenient to the downtown, but we like to walk.

We have recently returned from a stay at the Bolton. I have to say we were disappointed by the location. We were hoping for a lovely outlook but instead we overlooked the motorway below. No seaview at all. The hotel foyer is very small and lacks personality. The reception team were very limited with their knowledge and when we asked them to arrange a hire car, it took so long and with little feed back, we ended up sorting one out ourself.
The room was very clean and a good size if you want an average apartment style room.
The only bar in the hotel is a few seats in the foyer area, somewhere we didn't feel happy sitting cramped under the stairs!
We do a lot of traveling and would not class this as a 5 star hotel.

Absolutely fantastic, stayed here on several occassions whilst travelling to Wellington and loved it each time. Food amazing although a bit pricey, room service great. Pool/gym facilities great. Rooms very spacious with all you need really for a relaxing stay.

We had always stayed in the Intercontinental Hotel but last time we were in Wellington we felt that the service had declined and we wanted a bit more space.
I found The Bolton Hotel over the net which described itself as an apartment-style hotel - we were very pleasantly surprised. The hotel is situated on The Terrace which was very close to the NZ Parliament House and only a short walk to the start of Lamberton Quay (the shopping mecca).
The hotel itself was just excellent. The rooms were clean and large with comfy beds and pillows. We had a kitchen which also included a washing machine/dryer, dishwasher, fridge (nicely stocked) and a huge bathroom which a lovely shower.
We had dinner in their award winning restaurant (Bisque) which was just gorgeous although pricey - but the service was just excellent. We asked for help with the wine and was not disappointed. We also had breakfast which was fresh and quite reasonably priced.
I get tired of staying in hotels and I found the Bolton very convenient, reasonably priced and comfy. We will be staying there again when we visit Wellington.

My partner and I booked a Premier Studio Room for a weekend back from Edinburgh on the Bolton website and found the pictures on the site very accurate. The room was fantastic, large bathroom, cooking facilities, huge bed and really nice new decor.
As former local residents we chose not to have the breakfast from the buffet as it is very expensive when there are a number of fantastic cafes within a short stroll for half the price.
The parade cafe which is on Oriental parade (30 min walk from the Bolton) may possibly be the best cafe on the planet and if anyone likes big breakfasts they can not be faulted for a casual fantastic brunch/lunch.
The only issue we had with the Bolton was the service was a little poor on check out and when we booked a taxi for 6 through the concierge to Boulcott St (about 1.5 kilometre away) it cost $25 which was not stated when booking. Should have cost about $5 on a bad day.
