Choice of hotels is limited in Alkmaar, but there is a reason why the Best Western is ranked at the top. The rooms are modern, clean, and comfortable. The staff is friendly and helpful. It was very quiet, but I think it was the slow season as I did not see many other guests.
The location is great, as you can walk to most places.
Good place for tourists and business travelers.

Spent two nights here and it was perfectly acceptable and serviceable. No restaurant for meals, and there never is, but that was made very clear on arrival. The hotel is 5 minutes walk from the station, 5/10 minutes from the town - nicely situated on the canal. There's some traffic noise, but nothing too worrying. Reception and bar staff friendly and helpful - check in/out quick and efficient. Room - good size twin (204), very clean indeed, all the usual modern chain hotel things in it, and a comfortable bed (could have used a thicker duvet); bathroom was spotlessly clean and also very reasonably sized. Slightly nasty free shower gel and shampoo - bring your own! Room serviced efficiently and very thoroughly each day. Had no cause to try the 24h 'room service', so can't comment on that. Breakfast - buffet. Fruit salad, yogurts, breads, pastries cheese etc, plus hot bacon and scrambled eggs - all fresh and in unlimited quantities. Slightly disconcerting to eat in what feels like the middle of reception....the other slightly odd thing is that you have to ask at reception for the means to make tea/coffee in the room - it's free on request but I couldn't really see why it's not just provided in the room as standard. Alkmaar is very pretty and an easy day trip from Amsterdam. Good places to eat in town - De Nachtegaal on Langestraat (very friendly and English spoken), Portofino (cheapish Italian) at the very bottom of Langestraat - on a road called Meult (?). by the canal. I'm sure there are more....the nicest cafes in town seem to be on Houtil. Overall - I can't see any huge problems and I got it for about 80 euros a night, which I think is a bit of a bargain. A good base for a short stay.

Stayed at the Amrath Hotel In December between Xmas and New Year and was greeted very nicely by the day staff but we had problems with the night staff. It states in the Hotel book that there is a 24 Room Service but actual fact there was no room service not even for bottled water and no evening meals in the hotel. We were due to stay 2 nights but as we were so badly treated we only stayed for 1 night, tried to get the money back from the company and no luck. I was disgusted by the way we were treated and complained to Best Western Customer Complaints and the Hotel when i got home and the response i got was not that great. They class this hotel as a 4star personally i would class it as a 2 possibly 3star.
I would NEVER go back to this hotel and i hope all you that read this take this into consideration.
