If you enjoyed 3star hotels in the 70's

Wow, that 70's experience is alive and kicking in Villars.
If you enjoy paying 5* prices when what you truely get is at best 3* then come here. I assume the 5* is because the lift works??
Everything, and I mean everything needs renovation....I haven't seen a 5* hotel (it absolutely is not a 5* hotel....) in greater need of being bought by a big company, closed and done up for a year...
It does have a very nice location, close to town, with a mini-bus for lifts to the telecabine....but that really is the very best i can say.
Getting served with a drink late afternoon is a painfully slow.
The only Swiss efficiency I experience was in producing the huge bill.........Go somewhere else until it has a dramatic make-over or you will be hugely disappointed

Staying at this hotel was a true pleasure. Even if parts of the hotel still are dated, after a long time, they have finally refurbished the public area’s and it must be said, the change is total and positive. The new bar with live entertainment, a restaurant of superb gastronomic quality and the candle light atmosphere very cosy. Staff was wonderful and particularly helpful.
The snow season is the best since 10 years, which made our stay truly magical. We kicked off our ski’s on the hotel’s own slope and felt right at home. I’ll be going back.

Tired 3 star hotel in need of TLC!

Tired hotel, nice staff, great lack of soundproofing. If you stay at this hotel when it is full and you like hearing what goes on in every room around you in great detail then you will have a ball. It is hard to imagine how this hotel keeps a 5 star rating. NIce facilities but all tired - pool needs an overhaul and when we stayed, it was cold! Staff are lovely and try to help as much as they can given the constraints. Restaurant is good. If you want to go last minute they always have a room, which sais it all. We had a nice time when we stayed but had been forewarned - if you go expecting a true 5 star hotel you will be dissapointed.

Birthday celebration and decided to push the boat out. This place is not cheap but the location and views are breathtaking. The hotel is an interesting mix of old / characterful and modern.
Bedroom was old style with genuine antique furniture - would have been nicer with double bed rather than 2 singles pushed togeher - but this seems to be the norm in a lot of European countries. The bathroom was a little dated but quirky - I liked it. The french windows opened onto a balcony that was panoramic, uninterupted and not overlooked - WOW!! I'll try and atach a coople of phots - tried previously but couldn't get them to upload.
The pool is NOT a lesuire pool. It suited me as I like to swim i.e. it was a little cool for an indoor pool - but if you take a cool shower before you get in its perfectly fine.
The reception staff were very helpful in discussing our walking trips around and about the area - [again with the views !] - when your out and about - picture perfect. About 5 minutes walk from the vernicular railway which takes you to the top of a nearby mountain - from there a great setting out point or conversely you can do a number of walks straight from the hotel - voila!
The restaurant was a bit pricey but if you like attentive service and lots of bowing and scraping - they can't do enough. However after the first night we explored and found some more autentic eateries in town - great atmosphere.
Overall I would recommend this hotel
