We attended a conference in San Antonio and decided that using our timeshare was the best way to save money and be close to the action.
We arrived by air and took a taxi to the hotel. We were very early and the room was not ready. Our bags were tagged and we returned after 2pm to find our bags already delivered to our room.
Noise has been a consideration in previous reviews but we had no noise problems. We occupied a two bedroom unit and the "king room" actually had no windows, not really a problem due to the fact that there was no chance of noise being a problem.
The rooms are not appointed in a luxury manner, if that is what you are looking for! The building is on the historic registry and much of the interior is preserved, therefore, the floors are polished cement and the original concrete beams for the building are visible. All explained on a plaque in the elevator and the inroom information. When you take into consideration the historic nature of the building this only adds to the charm.
The wi-fi was a bit limited in the room, but available, and free. Evidently wi-fi had been in the rooms had been added just days before.
Do not expect any amenities, because there aren't any. I happened into the lobby one morning for the free Starbucks coffee and found the hotel manager speaking to new employees. The quote her, "this is a hotel with no amenties, you, the staff are the amenities, so when people request something, they need to be made happy."
We never felt deprived of anything. One strange thing--the key I carried kept having to be reprogrammed. I must be magnetic because my husband never had a problem.
The washer/dryer combo is unusual. You must do small loads or the clothes come out in a mangled state, clean, but mangled. At least there is an iron available.
The location is ideal to access the RiverWalk and in the evening we could look out the windows and see the horse-drawn, lighted carriages taking riders. The Alamo is less than a 10 minute walk from the hotel and you'll never want for a restaurant with the multitude of restaurants steps away on the Riverwalk.
The one thing we missed was having a place to really buy staples to use in the kitchen since this is a timeshare with kitchen facilites. We didn't have a car until the last day, didn't need it, so shopping was limited.
Go to Riverside Suites and enjoy!

We loved this place! It is cozy with a great location right on the Riverwalk. We flew to San Antonio, took a taxi to Riverside Suites, and never needed a car the whole week. The VIA trolley system in San Antonio is so user friendly and inexpensive, plus there is so much to do on the Riverwalk, a car is really optional.
Our suite was perfect for two people... two closets, two armoire type entertainment centers with drawers, king bed, combo-type washer/dryer (we loved this because you throw in a small load each morning and when you get in for the evening it is all washed AND dried!). There was even stereo throughout the whole unit with volume control in every room. Whirlpool tub. Our unit looked out on the Riverwalk and the patio.
The location is perfect because it is up in the loop of the Riverwalk. Easy to get everywhere! This is a renovated landmark building, so the suites are not the big ones we kind of get used to in timeshare, but the limited space in our unit is well designed. Note, however, that it would have been too crowded for four people. The units are all unique. If you go to the Wyndham website you can see the layout. There are some units that are really great and some that are not so great. So keep that in mind.
Comments about the odor on College Street are correct. Landry's is downstairs and some of the seafood odors vent on College Street. But you pass the vents in about three seconds. Don't let it cause you to miss out on this greatly located, very charming place!
We bought this fixed week a few years ago strictly for trade and never used it until this year. Now we plan to return to Riverside Suites every year. No more trading this one away!

Timeshare exchange, our first trip to San Antonio since husb in Army 1958! We had 1BR unit on top (7th) floor, looking down on rooftop across street. Located next to Landrys Seafood Rest (part of same bldg) on busiest part of RiverWalk; access to RW out front (College St) entrance, then walk around block and down stairs. Riverwalk beautiful with Christmas lights, busy with the little boats (and noisy that weekend with crazy football fans.) We had no problem with noise in our unit, which was plenty roomy for the 2 of us. Very nicely done with Southwest colors, glazed concrete floors except carpet in bedroom. Full size refrig, range burners, microwave, dishwasher, adequate dishes and utensils of good quality. Cabinets too high for me to reach. Hallway connected living room with smallish bedroom and past the nice big bathroom with lovely rustic decor (maybe too rustic; lights more for decoration than use. We bought a small shaving mirror. Euro style washer/dryer unit in bathroom. We had encountered one in London and knew that it would take about 4 hrs to do a load. Armoires with TV in 2 rooms, DVD in LR.
Lobby decorated for Christmas. Computer available for guest use. Meet and greet one morning, coffee and donuts, mostly a stand-up gathering to meet other guests. All personnel including maid and porter were very friendly and accomodating. Towels changed on Tuesdays, trash taken daily, otherwise no maid service for timeshare guests.
Not luxurious and roomy as some timeshare resorts, but we found it entirely satisfactory and a good restoration of an older building. Did not find lack of activities a drawback in an urban setting. Easy walk to Alamo and RiverCenter area, trolleys ($1) for tourist area easy to understand. Sightseer bus #7 to art museums, zoo, botanical garden, etc. We used SATRANS airport shuttle satisfactorily.

We stayed at Riverside Suites from Dec 28, 2007 thru Jan 2, 2008. We loved it - like other reviewers I was a little apprehensive after reading some of the other reviews, but our experience was wonderful. We (my husband & I + 2 teenagers) were in a 2 bedroom unit on the 6th floor. The unit was beautiful, very clean, plenty of room, and we loved the decor. The location was perfect. Except for some revelery after the Alamo Bowl and New Years at 12, we never heard any outside noise, and even then it was not loud enough to keep us from sleeping. (We watched the fireworks show while sitting on our sofa - we had the best view in San Antonio) The staff was very nice and helpful. Our only complaints were - there was no oven, and the washer/dryer combination took 4 hours to do 1 load. But I would definitely love to stay here again, and want to see the Riverwalk in the spring. (The concrete floors and sharp corners on the coffee table might be a concern for families with small children) But for us it was great.

We used our Discovery points from Fairfield to try Fairfield/Wyndham resorts' Riverside Suites in San Antonio. Can say that going to San Antonio in July is NOT recommended if you're not used to humidity! It was nearly unbearable. As for the unit - we reserved a 2 bed/2 bath as our family of 3 met up w/my sister and her family of 3 -- tight quarters and NOT very comfortable and next to NO privacy. Outside sound was a problem too, even tho we were on the 6th floor. After having been at the Fairfield resort in Las Vegas twice, I can say we were VERY disappointed in this TX property. The main entrance is on an ALLEY masquerading as a "street"! Noxious smells every time you exited the building, no loading zone, no valet, schlepping our own luggage, no convenient free parking. The 3rd floor patio was nice, but my sis and I along with our 17 & 22 year-old daughters got "kicked out" at 10 pm, when the security guard came along and asked us to leave in not-so-friendly terms. The unit had a w/d - but it is a "euro" design and even after 10 hours (I'm not kidding) towels were still not dry. Mgmt comped us towels for 6 people the entire week, because of this, tho the maid insisted we should pay... Staff was OK, not terribly professional. All in all, we are glad we've used up most of our Fairfield points and won't be renewing our timeshare w/them - their inventory is too limited. We'll stick our other time share and avoid Fairfield properties except for Las Vegas (which is beautiful). Nice to see San Antonio, but won't be back any day soon. Good travels ya'll!!
