We have just returned from a 3 week trip thru Croatia/Italy. We stayed at GVA Hotel Argentina at the beginning of our trip for 2 nights before taking a 7 day cruise up the Croatian coast. I booked my rooms directly thru the hotel & we had wonderful seaview rooms on the 7th floor. We traveled with our children so we asked to have rooms next to each other.
It is a short 5-10 minute walk into the old walled city which we loved because we were out of the crowds but close enough to walk into town for dinner, etc. The hotel has a beautiful seaside location with a great pool right on the water. My children are teenagers so we all loved the pool setting & we spent a great deal of time by the pool as the weather was wonderful & the views into the old city as amazing. We also enjoyed being able to swim in the ocean. There is a lovely outdoor cafe close to the pool which had great food/service while we were at the pool. The breakfast is in an outdoor terrace overlooking the old city -- the views are breathtaking & the food was also wonderful.
There were several people who were staying at the hotel who we met at the pool who were going on our cruise. We all agreed that this hotel was a great choice to stay in to begin our trip. My only negative comment would be that we had 1 room that the air conditioning did not work as well as our other room.
The hotel arranged a private guided walking tour of the old city for us & one of the other families that we met at the pool which was great fun. We also enjoyed walking the wall of the old city & we went right when the wall opened to avoid the cruise ship crowds & we were able to do that easily because the hotel is so close to the old city. On our last day, we did not board our ship until late in the afternoon so the hotel kept our luggage for us & we relaxed by the pool & had lunch & then showered & changed clothes in the indoor spa facility at the hotel before boarding the ship.
Our rooms were in the Hotel Argentina building & had a sea view -- it was very nice. I do not know what the rooms are like in the other buildings. I would stay here again because of the amenities (pool & restaurants) & the location that this hotel offers. We ate breakfast & lunch at the hotel but did not have dinner there. Would love to go back & stay at the Hotel Argentina!!

I was a guest for a wedding reception at the GVA Hotel Argentina. While I will admit the view from the terrace was lovely, the food was very good and the wait staff was pleasant, the management far exceeded in failing all of my expectations for a proclaimed 5 star hotel and effectively ruined the bride's special evening. The bride had to deal with unpressed bridal gowns and dresses (that she was charged for), a lost veil, the grooms missing pants, and a screaming, cursing American woman attending a banking conference that ruined the reception with no managment intervention.
At the time of the tossing of the bouquet, a female guest came out on the balcony and started swearing, screaming and yelling. She came off as completely crazy, calling the bride and all of her guests profanities, and condemning the evening and the marriage. All of us were in shock that his happened. The bride remained composure dand then burst into tears. She was shocked, hurt and embarassed. I expected the management to come and sort out the situation. A five star hotel does not allow guests to talk to other guests this way. Being very close to the bride, I went down to the front desk to find that no managment was on duty. I asked to speak with someone and was told that it would not be possible and that the woman was a guest and that she was right. I then asked the man on duty what he viewed the 30 people here at the hotel for the wedding to be if we were not also guests. In the end he conceded that we were both right and there was nothing that could be done about this. During this conversation, the American woman, who had been upgraded to a different room, came down. The wedding party was remaining calm, but she once again started screaming at us. Apparently she and her husband were there for a Croatian bank conference and she felt entitled to behave this way because she was there working for a living.
End of the story: the next morning, the assistant manager was sent to deal with thebride. They were told the manager had gotten ulcers over the problem and would not be able to assist. No apology was given, no discount was given, and even the charges for the wedding garments that were not pressed and were lost were enforced. This hotel needs to rethink its management and service if it wants to claim to be a five star hotel and charge five start prices.

Management and Customer Service Disaster!
Guest name: Traumatized, USA
While the Grand Villa Aregentina may boast the location, and luxury of a 4/5 star hotel, the management and customer service leaves much to be desired. This is a long storgy, but believe me if you read it, it may prevent you from making a HUGE miskate. Bottom line: STAY AT THE HILTON INSTEAD.
My finance and I had booked the GVA for a wedding reception dinner. We had rented out the entire terrace for the evening and had payed top dollar to do so. The wedding party was going along and everyone was enjoyng themselves, but an evening manager proved to be conspicuously absent. This proved to be a problem later in the evening. At a certain point, just as I was getting ready to throw my bouquet a racket was heard. It was a very crazy hotel guest standing on the balcony screaming expletives and cursing our marriage, wishing us a divorce and insulting our guests and myself. At one point she called me a hussy and and F&*@bing Bit@$H ! It was the most humiliating experience! At no point had anyone from the hotel come to tell us to turn down the noise. Even after the incident no one came to say anything. We had to go to the front desk, where agian we were met by the CRAZY woman yelling and screaming at us uncontrollably. I was brought to tears. No manager was on hand and no one could be reached to talk to. The follwing day when we went to finalize our bill (we refused to the night before) the manager was again amazingly absent . Instead his assistant was sent to talk to us. The response given was they can't teach their guests manners and that they can do NOTHING about this. They are not responsible. I later found out that they had given the crazy women who has forever ruined the memories of my wedding and humiliated me an upgrade for her room (only after she had made a huge scene and ruined my wedidng and I am sure disrupted other guest by her insane rant), but they didn't even offer us an apology for allowing the situation to get out of hand or for not even having a manager on site to mitigate the situation. In a developed country, customers are treated with respect and not taken advantage of as purely a money making venture. While they may have learned something about capitalism (making money) they failed to gleen the most important part----customer service! This was the biggest mistake I ever made. If I would have know they would have had such poor management I would have stayed at the Hilton.
