We booked only one night and wished we could have stayed longer. Friendly staff, great rooms, kitchenette, very clean and cozy, it made our stay in Victoria very comfortable. We would definitely come back!

We spent our honeymoon in Victoria at the Helms Inn, Oct. 29-Nov. 1. The room was large, clean, and cozy, with a well-equipped kitchenette, and nice "home-y" touches like a live flower in a vase on the dinette table and a statue of a sleeping cat on top of the TV stand.
The staff was very friendly and helpful. When I asked about the ghost walking tours, the guy at the front desk downloaded all the info I needed off the Web and gave me a printed copy. They were also very nice about storing our luggage when we needed it.
The one hang-up I had was, because it's an older hotel, you could easily hear the people above walking around. But this is easily cured with the television and/or ear plugs!
Lovely place to stay, and we will definitely be back!

Great Place to Stay!

We stayed at the Helm's on October 26th, 2007. We only stayed one night but it was enough time to convince us how nice the Helm's Inn was. The room was very clean and cozy and came with a nice size kitchenette which we would have used if we stayed longer.
It's nice to know that we don't have to worry about where to stay next time we visit Victoria - we'll definately be back!
PS... you can't be any closer to downtown - without being right in the "tourist trap" area!

Pros: VERY big room with a equipped kitchen and stove, oven, AND microwave. Coffee and tea were both good quality.
Room had an extra bed.
Close to museums, main streets, and park but far enough that it isn't too noisy.
The Noodle Box is a delicious place to eat and it is just down the street from the inn.
Cons: No elevators to get heavy suitcases up narrow, hard-to-maneuver stairs.
Had to pay for parking in small lot. Staff recommended we get back early to ensure parking spot. This was on a Sunday.
Park was not as nice as I thought it would be. Veering off the main path to explore led to unmaintained dying plants and seedy looking people loitering.
Walls are thin. Could hear people walking around above us late at night.
