Good location

Very convenient location. Metro around the corner, easy walk to historic downtown, very good restaurant across.
Got 2 rooms. One for us, one for our 2 teenagers. Airconditioner in kids room did not work and room smelled bad. Coffee maker in their room, not in ours. Only spent one night, so didn't bother requesting to change since we had 2 rooms next to one another. Front desk service was so-so (apathetic as one reviewer said). They did allow us early check-in. Breakfast, not bad.
Not 4-stars, no way.

Loved this hotel. The rooms are wonderful, clean, bright and large. And amusing room names! The breakfast is lovely and the staff were very friendly and ready to help. You have a walk into Lisbon (no bars and restaurants nearby) but its a nice walk - past all the designer shops. The hotel is located right next to metro station and lovely park. Would recommend this hotel every time

Positives: A good location in central Lisbon, on the Avenida Liberdade, close to shopping, restaurants, strolling, and a taxi stand. Recently renovated, the elevators are new, the lobby is bright and clean, the bathroom fixtures in the rooms are new. Good low price. Breakfast is included.
Negatives: The renovations feel like they were designed by a college student with more budget than taste. Everything is black and white lucite and zebra prints, with strange cinema themes around every corner. A little movie stuff might be amusing or trendy, but this is over the top and a little creepy. The rooms are small, our telephone didn't work and the mini-fridge wasn't restocked until we requested several times. The bathrooms weren't completely renovated, so while the fixtures were replaced, there are still holes in the walls from where the pipes for the previous fixtures were installed. Service at the desk and the breakfast restaurant are spotty.
Conclusion: Not a bad place if you're on a tight budget or only staying a day or two. But if you can spend a bit more or you plan to be in Lisbon for more than a few days, you'll definitely want to be somewhere else. The Hotel Florida gets tiresome fast, and there are dozens of other hotels in the same vicinity.

The hotel is currently being refurbished and my girlfriend and I were lucky to get a new room (The Paul Newman Room). The rooms are now themed after famous movie stars. For what we paid for, these new-style rooms are pretty hip. Lots of room, very clean and quite modern. Although there are other options that are probably more upscale in the area, the value quotient is definitely high for this hotel.
