We have just returned from Sardinia which included a 4 night stay in El Faro. Thought the location/ decks around the sea were beautiful. As noted elsewhere you do need a car if you stay here though there is a bus service into Alghero. We preferred the peaceful location rather than stay in Alghero which seemed pretty hectic. For those who want to walk back from the pub/club this probably isn't for you. We didn't eat at the hotel as the only option was a pricey 4 course menu (fixed price) -on checking out we discussed this with reception and they mentioned they were introducing a new a la carte menu. Overall v good

Wonderful Location -overlooking Porto Conte bay in North West Sardinia

The El Faro is in a beautiful situation - part of a National Park- and situated around a natural harbour. The whole bay is surrounded by trees & is one of only 2 hotels with this fantastic outllook - 20 minutes from the centre of Alghero.
The hotel is expertly managed by Giovanni whose staff were so friendly & obliging.
Most rooms have a balcony with the superb view of the bay & the crystal clear blue sea-- being an island it looks as if there are no pollution problems. Room decor is in pastel colours with marble flooring & double basins in the bathroom. The standard rooms have shower only. Executive rooms & suites are equipped with a bath & larger verandas.
There is an indoor/outdoor swimming pool & the area leading down to the sea has bamboo shaded areas with sun-loungers for relaxation.
There is not a sandy beach at El Faro just a gentlly sloping rocky descent to the sea edge, so it may welll suit older clients rather than families with children, however a sandy beach is within 15mins driving distance.
The restaurant serves a 4 course meal nightly which is made from mainly local Sardinian recipes.
The Service in the hotel is fiirst rate in all areas.
Cleanliness is maintained to the highest of dtandards & we saw daily the reception & public areas being cleaned from 7.30 am before many guests were around.
The hotel specialises in weddings with several different sized reception rooms
It also has a fully equipped conference center to seat 50+ persons in lecture theatre style and also a spa.
In all a thoroughly relaxing & enjoyable 10 days at this hotel which is only 15 minutes drive from Alghero airport.

We got married in Alghero in the middle of May and had our reception at this hotel.
The first thing that struck us when looking for a venue was how amazing the view is from this hotel. It looks out over a secluded bay onto the most beautiful blue and clear sea. The sunbeds are set on rocks and there are platforms that reach right out into the sea for swimming. The second thing that struck us was how charming and friendly the staff were. The other reviews seem weird to me because we were treated with nothing but charm and the staff could not do enough for us.
The reception food was delicious and plentiful, so much so that we could not finish it. The waiting staff in particular were wonderful and many had trained in the big London Restaurants, one for Ramsey. The meal service was flawless, friendly and attentive. They all spoke English but to be honest, if you go to a foreign country then you should be speaking their language and not getting angry if they don't speak yours.
If you want people to always speak English then STAY IN ENGLAND!
Sardinia is a magical island, the food, culture and scenery is to die for. I would recommend this hotel and island to anyone that likes to experience the real thing. The hotel is slightly remote, but that is the beauty of it. If I wanted to be surrounded by other people, buildings and hotels then I would have got married in Benidorm (where they speak English I believe).
For class, a warm welcome, the most breathtaking views you have ever seen and great food and all delicious local wine you can't go anywhere else.

We made a decision back in July last year to have our wedding reception at the hotel El Faro. This took place 2nd May 2008 and was absolutely stunning.
The view, the rooms, the service and food was fantastic and we received the warmest reception from the hotel manager as we arrived by boat to the location.
This hotel is a perfect retreat for a romantic week, wedding reception or just a chill out.
We made some wonderful friends in Giovanni and Patrizia and will be returning for a holiday later on in the year or early next season.
I was very disappointed with the negative reviews from a group of people who stayed there last year. They must have butlers and live in mansions at home because our stay was faultless.
