My husband and I stayed here on our wedding night.. The hotel was a little dated but very nice. The people were very nice and it was a wonderful place to stay the night of my wedding.

Staying at the Senate Luxury Suites is a sort of time-warp experience. It is preternaturally quiet, although it is just a couple blocks away from the State Capitol downtown. The building is funky-charming, a 1920's luxury apartment block with ersatz gothic detail. The rooms are spacious and clean; many have kitchenettes and while ours didn't, there was still a separate room with a table and chairs, coffee-maker, etc. The furniture is uninspiring pseudo-colonial and the bathroom merely clean and functional, but the room's size and the small private balcony (a feature of most of the rooms, I think) made up for these little disappointments. The hotel lounge was closed the night we were there (due to an emergency in the only bartender's family), so we opened the french doors and sat on our little balcony, enjoying a Martini (from our private supply) while listening to the first cicadas of the season. The front-desk clerk was a sub standing in for the regular, but he was helpful and friendly; the contintental breakfast was quite nice. Try it!

The pictures on the internet do not reflect the actual look and condition of the rooms. It was o.k. for an older hotel, but definitely not luxurious! I was trying to surprise my husband with a "luxury suite" to get away and this was far from a treat; especially for the price- a little steep for the mediocrity of the rooms. Will not be staying there again.

I stay at the Senate Luxury Suites every time I bring my entire family to Kansas. The staff is very friendly, and the rooms are interesting and spacious. The place could use some updating, but that is part of its charm. My kids love the breakfasts in the morning.

I've stayed at the Senate suites 3 times. It is not like a traditional big conference hotel. It is a small hotel and quaint. The staff is friendly. Rooms are clean. If you have a conference at the Topeka Capitol Plaza, look at staying here (its about a mile North) for something different.
