stayd at rocce sarde in july 2007 as a family of 4 with 2 boys aged 6&4 staying in a 2 bed apartment in their residence. The apartments (10 in total) are very clean and spacious and nicley furnished with a beautiful view of the coast, garden and smallish swimming pool. it is located 1 mile away from the hotel so you need a car to go to the hotel for the meals and facilities. The hotel is well maintained, swimming pool and garden are extremely pleasant areas and often fairly quiet even in high season. The food was good, delicious & plentiful breakfast and huge 4 course dinners every night. (our kids did not eat the dinners but suppose that was to be expected!)
A good choice away from the crowds, but very close to attractions of the costa smeralda.

We stayed here June 07. I have to say we won't be back. We were in a family room and it was just too small. Also only a shower and no bath
in a family room is not on. plus no light over the shower, which meant that it was very dark (Psychoish at times). Rooms very dull and
dated. Breakfast truly awful - e.g. tinned pears and a bowl of mouldy apples - IN ITALY.
on the plus side - lovely pool. lovely gardens - fab flowers - great views. Very welcoming receptionist and pool staff - other staff members not overly friendly. after the intial warm welcome nobody said good morning, good night etc. to us for 4 days - the suites are a short distance from the main building though.

The hotel lived up to the good reviews i'd read and we had a great stay. The hotel is set in the side of a granite hill with outstanding views to the sea. The gardens are terraced with the pool being set amongst olive trees so you can relax in the sun or the shade. The poolside bar serves snacks, salads and drinks up until midnight plus there is live music every night.
The rooms were comfy, very clean and air conditioned. The staff were courteous and plentiful but if you take the trouble to learn a little Italian, it goes a long way. In this particular region of Sardinia it is just as well to practise your Italian as English is not so widely spoken.
The food was of an excellent standard with a four course evening meal. Being a mediterranean island, expect at least one course to feature a tentacled sea creature.
The only 2 negative things I would say are that you will need a car as the hotel is in quite a remote location and also that it is not cheap. To be fair it is not a cheap island and being on the edge of the Costa Smeralda you would not expect it to be.
So, to recap, for a relaxing, family friendly holiday in Sardinia, I would recommend the Rocce Sarde.
