I’ve just got back from a holiday to Tobago. We were booked in at the Turtle Beach By Rex Resort but refused to stay there as it was the worst hotel I have ever seen.
We were transferred to the Blue Haven and must say that we were so happy from the moment we arrived. We were greeted by Natasha who was warm and cheerful, we were given a rum punch and taken to our rooms which were modern clean and bright.
Everyone at the hotel was friendly, from the Manager to Javon at the bar, Lennox on the Beach, the cleaners, kitchen and restaurant staff. The Head Chef Damian was always willing to cater for your needs if there was something you didn’t like.
For getting around the island we used a Taxis with a guy called Too Sweet, if we wanted to go anywhere including a tour of the Island he was only to happy to oblige.
I would recommend the Blue Haven and Tobago to anyone you can do as little as you want or as much as you want.

To put this review in context, my husband and I are seasoned travellers in our late 40's who expect a high standard of customer service wherever we go.
We booked the Blue Haven amidst very mixed reviews. We went with an open mind and hoped that the researching that we always do before booking a holiday would once again pay off.
Tobago is a beautiful island with a very chilled out feel, known locally as 'liming'. The setting for this hotel is pure paradise. The pictures on the internet do not do it justice at all.
Is it a 4* or 5* star hotel? To be honest ratings are in fact over-rated! They are quite meaningless as a pristine hotel with double gloss in Dubai does not in my opinion rate higher than a smaller colonial or traditional hotel, where at least they know your name! Whether you consider it to be 4 or 5* it is fabulous.
The pool although small is more than adequate for the size of the hotel. There is a lovely open air area and a covered seating area which provide ample shade. Seating consists of loungers, settees and chairs with huge cushions on which to lime.
There is also a fantastic open terrace, again with a variety of relaxing chairs/sofas/cosy two seater covered chairs and lots of tables and chairs. All this with panoramic sea views.
The beach is right next door, down a few steps and a decked walkway. The beach is beautiful, surrounded by palm trees and other flora with a grassed area and padded loungers. There is plenty of shade and a really great decked and covered bar/restaurant with nice tables and chairs. This is where lunch is served! Lunch consists of a large menu everything from local fish, chicken, salads, burgers or roti. The beach is golden sand, no pebbles or shingle and has a long flat walk into the sea, which is clear blue water. This beach only ever had a handful of guests on it- pure robinson crusoe feel.
The main restaurant at the hotel is high up so you have sea views whilst you are eating. The food is very good, cooked fresh. The menu has about 4 choices for the main course each day, but the menu is changed every day. The fully inclusive option is great value for money.
However, the manager/owner and his staff make this hotel great. I have never had such a warm welcome anywhere in the world and the service was fantastic. I talked to many guests and all of them loved the hotel. We along with many others will definately be returning. This place is Blue Heaven by anyones star rating! Overall, a suberb hotel which I would unreservedly recommend.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Blue Haven, the best thing about the hotel is the setting and the way the hotel is situated. The beach is lovely and very well looked after, the boys who looked after the sunbeds combed the sand each day and there was no rubbish on the beach . The food at the beach bar at lunchtimes was very good as was the service. Before we went we had read reports here that the food was not that good, it was actually not bad atall and sometimes excellent. We are talking about the Caribbean here, you don't expect it to be comparable with the London restaurant scene! We wanted to tip some of the staff before we came home and had a hard job choosing because they were all so good. It does work both ways , if you show friendliness to them they will respond in a friendly manner! We did have problems with not enough hot water for showers at times, this was annoying, so my husband decided to mention it to Karl during the managers cocktail evening. It was immediately dealt with much to the delight of other guests aswell. Some of the entertainment was a bit noisy, but thats just a personal thing,
and the music in the bar in the evenings was also too loud. All in all, if you are about to go to the Blue Haven, dont worry about any bad reports you have read. It is a lovely quiet retreat and we would not hesitate to go back there again.
