We did not stay at Las Rocas, but went on several dive trips with them. The dive shop manager was friendly and nice, but that is where things went south. The dive staff were unprofessional and rude. They complained when they had to do any work (like carry empty tanks back to the shop after a dive, help divers with equipment setup, etc.). We are advanced divers, but had a more novice diver with us. With other dive shops the divemaster will help out newer divers with equipment setup, but not here! In addition, they always seemed not to have enough weights for all of their divers and lied about the amount of weights that they handed out (their weights are not marked). This made for a miserable first dive, until we knew better. If you are a diver who likes to work for the experience...haul all of you equipment up and down hills and balance on a plank in a tiny boat, then this might be a good experience. Overall, it was a relief to find that not all dive shops on Roatan were the same. For a friendlier and more professional experience, we recommend Bananarama down the beach.

dive shop: I loved the wreck dive, canyon reef, and another dive right near las rocas...disappointed that weather did not permit mary's and spooky channel. dive shop needs better system to keep track of # of dives...I had to show dive log to not get charged for two dives I was charged for that didn't happen.
food: pizza was pretty good, heard comments from other guests that rigatoni was delicious...probably because the owners are Italians. i went to bananarama for 16 oz burgers and cerviche. bite on the beach next door was pretty good. i did not opt for meal plan because i wanted to try different restaurants.
resort: quite please overall. reasonable price, clean, comfortable, relaxing, lots of snorkeling and diving within 1 mile radius. no power outage. few if any mosquitos, but I put on repellent after last dive of the day to ward off sand flies. I took malaria medication, but most likely was not necessary.
location: conveniently located between west end and west bay...this is the leeward side of the island which probably has more sand flies but calmer water. i wish i brought my sail rig and anchor along to use with my kayak. 15-20mph wind would be ideal for sailing, but avoid the shallow reef area. i did not see sailboat or hobie cat rental, but that is probably because they want to protect the reef.
transportation: car rental at west end is around $25-$30 at low season. scooter $24 a day. TACA not reliable and too expensive from SAP to Roatan. probably best to fly on weekend directly to Roatan (i.e. Continental) or fly AA to SAP and then SOSA or Atlantic to La Ceiba and then 1 hour ferry ride to Roatan (some passengers had motion sickness when water was rough)

Our boys were crying the day we left Las Rocas. The staff obviously made our family feel right at home. They treated our 2 boys ages 6 and 4 as if they were their own kids. We had not a care in the world when the kids would say "we are going to help Randy, see ya". They were always in good company. The small pool was perfect for the kids and us too. They would practice their snorkeling before heading to the "real thing". (a 10 min. walk down the beach).
The diving was great for my husband. The dive sights are so close he could leave at 9:30 and be back by 11. We would still be chillin' from breakfast and splashing in the pool! Can't say enough about our wonderful stay especially for young families. We took a chance not seeing any reviews regarding small kids and now I'm able to write a positive one for all those families still wondering where to stay. The Korin Family, Brooklyn, NY

This was our first visit and won't be our last. Rooms were very comfortable. The beds were firm but not too hard (as in Mexico hard). The food was wonderful. The menu was only a guideline. They will make anything you want as long as they have the ingredients. Hubby celebrated his birthday there and they made him the most fabulous cake. There is no beach in front of the resort, but a 2 min walk will totally fulfill your dream beach. We pretty much had the beach to ourselves when the cruise ships weren't in town. All the staff were great. Winston is the greatest. Only bad thing was the sand fleas/flys. The 2 of us went through a can of deet a day. Don't bother with the light weight stuff, bring the 45% stuff, or better. You'll get bit anyway so bring plenty of different itch reliefs.
