We just got back from the Barbados Beach Club, at the main resort, and we had a great time. Our party included myself and husband, our 20 year old and 16 year old sons, my sister and her 16 year old son and 13 year old daughter. The property is dated and by American standards is probably a 2 star. However, the rooms are clean, the staff is great and Barbados is a wonderful vacation spot. The food in the resort is reliable and there was always something we enjoyed, especially the meats at the carving station. The desserts were not up to American standards but we learned the last night that we could have ordered ice cream each night!!!!Afternoon tea was predictable but just enough to hold us over until dinner. We ate at one of the speciality restaurants and it was very good. The bar was easily accessible and the bartenders quickly learned what we enjoyed. The pool was welcoming and clean and never crowded. There were always enough pool chairs and tables on the pool deck. We did not spend much time on the beach but the equipment to borrow was not as great as the website makes it sound. Also, the activities were not enough to keep us busy, the miniature golf course was like putting in your back yard. There are tennis courts and a basketball court but we did not use them. I would highly suggest that you rent a car so you can explore the island. There is much to see!! Our kids surfed with Jay and Russell from Surf In Barbados in Hastings and they were great. We rented the surf boards a second day and went to Drill Hall. There are picnic tables at the park and we spent the entire day here. We also snorkeled at Folkstone in Holestown and had a marvelous time for little money, about $15 US to rent equipment for the day. We drove up to Bathsheba to the windmill at Morgan Lewis Sugar Mill and explored the mill. At the Nature Preserve we saw the green monkeys. Shopping is not as great as other islands we have visited but still fun at the Pelican Craft Center, Chattel House in Holestown and St Lawrence Gap. We missed fish fry in Oistinis due to rain.
I would go back to Barbados and would recommend the Beach Club to anyone who is looking for a nice relaxing beach vacation. If you are looking for lots of activities and nightlife, choose someplace else!!! Otherwise, this is a great place for the price and we will remember it fondly!!!

When we arrived at the Barbados Beach Club I wanted to cry. The room was nowhere near a 2 1/2 stars. It was like a closet. The bathroom had no nice aminities. Just soap. The kind noone wants to use. I actually felt like I was in a cheap Motel from the 70's. If I had not been so tired from the trip I probably would have gotten back on a cab and tried to find another place. The only redeeming factor was it was clean and had clean sheets and towels. The picture on the web cite shows a really pretty picture of the pool area and outside, and looks very romantic. Don't believe it. It was just an average pool and average everything else. The food was bland. There was lots of it, and quite a bit of variety, (we went the all-inclusive route) but there was no taste to any of the food--it tasted like cardboard. Around the third night of our vacation we were awakened by a loud popping noise--we thought it was a gun that had been fired from somewhere outside near our room--we called security and were assured that it was something that had dropped outside. The next night the same thing--only this time we figured it out--sparks and fire were coming from our wall unit air conditioner!!!! We reported it, and they fixed it, but I still have nightmares about "what if"--- . Some of the staff were very rude to me also when I turned in my pool towels--the girl at the desk rolled her eyes and made some comment under her breath about me placing the towel on the desk when I turned it in--of course no one at the hotel had ever told us where the towels were to be turned in or the proceedure for getting new ones. The entire week of our stay most of the staff looked and acted like they had rather be somewhere else and looked and acted like it was beneath them to even have to assist us. I would not return to this hotel.

Although this hotel is a 2 star, every possible courtesy was extended to us to make our stay very very pleasant and a happy one. Food was fresh and entirely edible with a mixture of local, english and american, fish and steaks just mouthwatering. Bed was comfortable and the room very clean. The staff are marvellous and caring. Sandra and Douglas ran the restaurant with precision yet it was truly relaxing. What more could you want from a Barbados beach holiday except Sandy Lane at ten times the price. Would definitely go here again.
