I have just returned from a 1 week stay with my husband at the Tropikist Hotel in Tobago. It was excellent value for money.
We stayed on a bed and breakfast basis. The breakfast was pleasant with toast, cereal, fruit, eggs, omlettes, beans, bacon ,sausage etc and local fayre available to choose from which in my opinion is more than adequate. Tea, coffee (instant coffee, I note that a few people have been griping about this!!) and juice.
We didn't have lunch or dinner in the hotel so I can't comment on this. I prefer to be out and about.
The room was really nice with an amazing view and we enjoyed many sunsets from the balcony. We stayed in the new block and all the rooms enjoy a prefect view. It was a pleasure to wake up to every morning. The rooms have a hair dryer and iron, but no tea/coffee making facilities, however, they did provide me with a kettle for my early morning cuppa.
The pool and gardens are well maintained and there were plenty of sunbeds. The nearest beach is Store Bay (which was busy with tourists and boat trips) so I would recommend if you enjoy peace and quiet to hire a car and drive up the west coast of the island to enjoy the best beaches which you can have all to yourself. We hired a car from Whatty -ask for his number at the hotel reception. Petrol is cheap and you can explore the island, it is stunning. Don't miss the Argyle Waterfalls.
Trinidad is only a 15-20 min flight from Tobago, so we hopped on a plane and popped over for a visit. Whatty recommeded a guide, Robert, who took us around to see the highlights,he was fabulous, a really lovely chap and Trinidad has sooo much to offer it was breathtaking, the mountains, beaches and countryside. You can see the development and almost feel the energy of the place.Don't be deterred by the crime, we really enjoyed it.
When you arrive at Crown Point airport, the hotel is literally a 10 min stroll away, so don't waste your money on a taxi. Walk out of Arrivals, straight down the road and turn left onto Store Bay Local road. Follow the road round and the hotel is on the right, you can't miss it!
We really enjoyed Tobago and the hotel is nice but don't expect a 5 star resort and spa, and appreciate that it is an intimate 3 star hotel.

AFTER I READ ALL THE TACKY REVIEWS OF TROPIKIST I MUST SAY TO THEM; R.I.P.
MY HUSBAND AND I CELEBRATED OUR 5TH ANNIVERSAY AT THE HOTEL THIS PAST WEEKEND,AND I MUST SAY IT WAS AN ENJOYABLE ONE.
Checking in was a breeze with the efficient well organised staff. We did the all -inclusive plan, and I must say it was worth every penny. We recieved a double upgrade to a deluxe room,a king size bed, large bath and the view was breath taking.
There are no complaints on the resturant staff or the food, neither is ther any for the housekeeping or the bartenders.
Please to everyone who is considering a stay at Tropikist ,just go with an open mind .It's a 3 star hotel, this we know, but the service ,staff and atmosphere makes it feel as though your staying at a 5 star hotel. Please enjoy your stay, we sure did and and hope to return soon!! THANKS TO THE STAFF OF THE TROPIKIST HOTEL(SHIVANI,MR.SAMAROO AND THE BREAKFAST CHEF).

This was the worst Caribbean holiday we have ever had, we went 2 weeks all inc. The hotel itself was fine, but the bar staff and restaurant managers were rude ignorant verbal y abusive lazy, and had an attitude problem, they made you feel you were an inconvenience to them, they closed the bar before 10 pm. every night because they wanted to go home, made your drink so strong you could not drink it so forcing you to leave the bar, then had the front to open the bar late in the mornings blaming the guests for refusing to leave the bar and go to bed at 10pm. They had an habit of running out of ice between 12 and 2.30. the hottest part of the day and were too lazy to fetch any or phone for some to be brought to the bar.
If there were 3 or more girls behind the bar they would ignore you as they were too busy talking, if you tried to interrupted their chatting they would get nasty to you and tell you to go away.
If you complained to the hotel manager he would have a gentle word with them, then they really had it in for you and ganged up on you.
The food was at best cold to Luke worm, it was supposed to be alacarte, but was buffet food which they served to you, the same menu every day which was drab.
This is the only Caribbean holiday I could not wait to get back from, and that was from day two.
