We stayed at the Coral Mist from June 21 - 28. We had a great time. The Coral Mist was very nice, especially considering the price for a two-bedroom apartment unit. Good: 1. Price was excellent 2. Rooms were very clean with wonderful views of the ocean. Especially nice to sit on the balcony in the morning for breakfast and enjoy the sights and sounds. 3. The staff was amazingly helpful and cheerful. Of course the famous Reggie lined up our activities. Improvements: 1. The road noise mentioned by others was a bit of a problem. Our daughter can sleep through anything though and was in the room closest to the road so it wasn't a big issue. 2. Suggest gliders/pads on the legs of the furniture? The tile floors transmitted the sound of the people upstairs moving furniture at 2:00 a.m. 3. Add an AC unit in the general apartment area? The caveat here is that we Yanks tend to air condition to the point where you can store food in the room! The automatic shut off of the units when out of the room was a bit of a bother. Food: When we arrived we ended up eating all of our first day's meals at the hotel restaurant and found it to be quite good, especially considering the other criticisms posted here. I think it's under new management. We had many great meals while we were there. David’s is our old favorite from 18 years ago and just as memorable this time around. Any time we visit Barbados we'll make sure to eat at David's. Bert’s across the street was also very good, though more of an American style place. We had an excellent meal at Cafe Monet which I highly recommend. The Carib on the beach was good, though not as much so as the other places. Activities: The first Sunday we went on the National Trust 9-mile hike! These occur every Sunday at 6:00 am and 3:30 pm. Highly recommended, though it can be taxing. We went on the afternoon hike and saw parts of the island most visitors never see! It was the southeastern part of the island and fairly rugged. About 60 to 70 people hiked, of which we were about the only tourists and felt privileged to experience the hike with folk who have been doing this for 25 years and share their deep love of Barbados with all of us! The Catamaran tour was a lot of fun. We took kite-boarding lessons which really need a full day to even attempt to master. The Barbados Wildlife Reserve was a favorite but expanded since we last visited and the African Green Monkeys were across the parking lot from where we expected to find them!! We were underwhelmed by Bridgetown. The Banks Brewery tour is worthwhile, especially the samples!! After 18 years Barbados is still beautiful and the people exceptional. A lot of growth in that time and a lot more traffic. Saw some more pockets of poverty than I remember and hope the growth of this beautiful nation can help all of the residents. But we’ll be back sooner the next time.
