I booked this hotel through Travelocity and got double charged. Once from Travelocity on my business credit card and then again on my personal credit card. Neither company is easy to work with to get a refund for the double charged amount. The hotel was "cool" but dirty, in a low-income neighborhood, and nothing worked properly. All the air-conditioners in the rooms were broke (which is what the front desk staff said when I called to tell them my AC was not working properly) resulting in me turning my AC to 55 degrees just to get it to turn on, then running louder than a train wreck all night to spit out a measly amount of cool air on a 100+ degree night. When checking in they gave my reservation away which was a double bed room, and made me stay in a single bed room, with my co-worker - which as a married woman was an extremely awkward situation. And when I bring it up to them today after I called about the double booking charge they first told me that both the King rooms and Double rooms are "standard" so Travelocity can't tell the difference when making a reservation, and that they did my a favor by "upgrading" me to a king room. Obviously that's a contradiction (first a king bed and double room are standard, then the king room is an upgrade?), and I still have my Travelocity email confirmation which clearly stated a double room with 2 beds was reserved. + I remember clearly being able to choose which room type I wanted online. I wouldn't recommend staying at this hotel or having to go through this experience to my worst enemy.

We just got back from Phoenix yesterday. We were there for a long weekend. We stayed at the Calrendon for 4 nights. When we checked in we were upgraded to a suite which was awesome. We didn't request an upgrade the hotel just gave it to us. Check in was easy and fast - front desk staff is very accomodating and friendly. The building is old but the decor and atmopshere is great. Everything is very clean.

I stayed at the Clarendon during a business trip that included a little free time. The staff was super-friendly and helpful. The rooms are beautiful, the bed comfy, the bedsheets and pillows heavenly! Great TV, excellent pool. There was lovely local art in the restaurant and lobby. A few small negatives - the pool is open until midnight and so my second floor poolside room was a little noisy a bit later than I was expecting. I asked to be moved to a quieter room the next night and all was well until I discovered that the free in-room wireless Internet wasn't working there. Seems it works better in some of the rooms than others, but was always available in the lobby (where there's a computer and a printer for general use). The restaurant food was good but service was a little slower than I had hoped as a business traveler. One day there was an issue with the air conditioner and the rooms were warm overnight - luckily they had it fixed the next day. Business travel amenities were absent (no daily papers, no bill under your door on the last day, no notice of the checkout time in the room, no breakfast buffet). I would definitely stay at the Clarendon again for personal travel (rate was $84!) but for business I might go elsewhere.

This place was an interesting experience. My girlfriend and I stayed here on Memorial Day as I was looking into the law school nearby. My first impression as I drove up was that there is no way this is a 3.5 star hotel.
The Hotel looks, from the outside, like your classic intercity hostel. However, once inside you are completely convinced that this is not your typical low budget motel. However, there was an aire about the place that made me a bit uncomfortable.
After check in, I walked outside to go up the stairs to my room and was shocked to see the makings of a Gay Convention. There were at least 10 guys outside at the pool, all in various states of sexual representation with each other.
Moving on, we got to the room - which was upgraded to a suite, nice. And I instantly liked what I saw inside - some modern furniture and a large plasma screen television. However, the scene at the pool was still in the back of my mind as I questioned if I checked in during some sort of festival or was this in fact a gay hot spot and Hotwire had no clue.
Either way, once you get past the fact that the pool has a huge rainbow in it and the decor can be construed to be slightly homosexual - the amenities are great.
I would stay here again - if for no other reason to see if in fact the first stay was simply an anomaly. I tend to think not.

I found this unique hotel listed on Expedia and after checking out their website decided to stay there. Could not beat the price! Enjoyed my short stay there. Staff was great and so not stuffy. Very laid back, but in a good way. It's a little oasis - pool area great. Definitely a young crowd. Rooms were funky and then there's the flat screen tv. The softest bed!!!! No charge for parking, always a plus. Would definitely stay there again.
