My husband and I stayed in this lovely hotel for 3 nights. The room was well appointed, with a large sitting area and awesome bed. Our only complaint was no air conditioning, as it was very hot in Salzburg during our stay. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. The location is perfect, just across the river from town central. The breakfast buffet, included, was nice, although not much variety.
So much to do in Salzburg that we wished we had more time. Incredible shopping, restaurants, historical sights, museums, tours. Not to mention the chocolate! We definitely want to return.

We stayed in two hotels, a resort, and a zimmer in Austria, and the Wolf-Dietrich was the best price/experience value of all. Initially concerned about not staying in the Old Town (Altstadt), it was such an easy walk that we didn't have any trouble at all. My wife and I easily caught the bus from the train station, and walked everywhere else we wanted to see in Salzburg. We were quite glad to not have to deal with a car. This hotel was the only one of our four lodgings that provided a fan(!) Very clean, breakfast as good as anyone's, comfortable room, easy walk to the sights and food, I just don't have anything bad to say about it. It's not a "value chain" at all, or cheap, but at least we solidly got what we paid for here. The month of May was plenty warm enough, by the way. Our tour guide (Bob's Tours, another solid value) said July-August regularly hits a hundred degrees now. OK, one complaint since no one seems to mention it--hotels in Austria do not provide top sheets, at least in our four-city experience. Just letting everyone know.

We are a family of four, two adults and two teenagers. We stayed for three days in the Wolf-Dietrich and we really enjoyed this hotel and location. The room we got was very big with a separted room for the teenagers and a large sitting area. There was a nice flat screen televsion and free dvd's in the lobby. The beds were very comfortable and the furnishing was modern and cheerful. The staff in the reception were very helpful and there is a laundry right around the corner. This hotel is right across from the old town and in a great area. The streets and sidewalk cafes around the hotel were great and the entire city was spotless. We enjoyed the very large breakfast and the afternoon cake and tea. The only downside to this hotel is no airconditioning. It was unusually hot in Salzburg and our room was a bit hot at night. Not so bad that you could not sleep, but warm. However, I didn't notice air conditioning anywhere in the town. Unlike many previous reviews we were not crazy about the Mozart dinner concert. It was one splurge we didn't feel was worth the money. We liked Bob's Sound of Music tour and the teenagers loved the Salt Mines and the bob sled ride by the Salt Mine. We really loved Salzburg and I can't imagine anyone not happy with this lovely hotel.

Stayed 2 nights at the Wolf Dietrich in early April 2008 with my wife and four children ages 11 to 18. Had two adjoining rooms in the Residenz section of the hotel. Very accomodating staff who spoke fluent English, very nicely appointed rooms and very easy despite having four kids in tow. Loved the location and the abilty to walk to old Sazburg in just a few minutes. Would highly recommend it. P.S.Watching the free DVD of the Sound of Music while sitting in a hotel in Salzburg was a highlight for the kids.

This is a 4 star hotel although it should really deserve 5 stars. The location is central just next to Maribell Palace. The Reception is friendly & very efficient. The hotel have a great swimming pool & sauna facility & spotlessly clean. The breakfast buffet is included, all freshly prepared & enough seatin so you don't feel like fighting for tables 1st thing in the morning.
The only mumble I have is that the hotel don't seem to have aircondition (may be thats why it's only 4 stars) and in the summer heat can get a bit unbearable (too well insulated building). Luckily the hotel is in a quiet area so we slept with the window open without any noise at night...apart from the daily 8am church bells from St Sebestian next door.
Also if you have mobility difficulty, make sure you ask to be placed in the hotel side and not the adjoing Residence rooms. That only have stair access but face onto a quiet green inner court yard. The main hotel have lifts to all floors.
Will love to come back again. Will definately recommend the hotel to others.
