My Partner & I have always wanted to stay at the Hempel and found a great deal on Laterooms for a recent stay in London.
Arriving late - no door staff - so much for 5 Star. A small problem about check in - I prefer to pay by switch not credit card - this seemed to be an issue - why so ? It isn't at alledged lesser hotels.
Walls paper thin - If you were in 509 over the weekend - I hope your cough gets better.
The bathroom in 508 is plain dangerous to get in and out of to take a shower.
For minimal see under no fixtures at all. No where sensible to plug in phone chargers, laptops etc scrambling about on all fours to find a socket is no fun at any time. Also is it too much to expect a chest of drawers to put ones socks and so on in ? Obviously it is.
Won't be returning there are far better hotels at better value in London.

Do not stay at this hotel! I was charged for items listed on the hotel's website as included in the room, the internet wifi being a prime example. The room had exposed wires, molding paint throughout where the wall met the floor, and no power outlets save from moving the bedframe and mattress away from the wall and disconnecting the lamp as the only available power source in the entire room. No sound insulation exists and as a result one is able to hear other people talking in their rooms, walking in the hallway, and television playing. This hotel claims to be a five star, but is a two star at very best. There is no value for your money at the Hempel. It is a shallow and shabby hotel fraudulently announcing itself to be chic.

i'm not sure if it was the high hopes i had given who recommended this hotel, but i never became a fan. it was ok. very minimalist -- if you're into that (for example, a bed is just a mattress on the floor).
