We stayed at this hotel in July and the air conditioning was non functioning when we checked in. It was a Sunday and the front desk clerk plainly told us that nothing could be done until Monday. When we tried to open the windows, only one opened and the other was nailed shut which destroyed any cross breeze we could have gotten. It was absolutely suffocating. Again, we received the "French schrug". After two nights of this (yes the maintenance people did not fix it), we checked out early and went to Aix. It is interesting that a reviewer who stayed here in August had the same experience with the a/c.
The room was decorated nicely but you could tell it was not kept up. Also, if you looked up to the ceiling, you could see cobwebs.
Town was quaint but our stay was tainted by our experience with the hotel, unfortunately. People were not friendly.

This hotel was truly a haven for us. We arrived late on a Friday night and the hotel employee quickly and politely showed us to our room. The hotel has terrific charm and character -- it smells wonderful (like Grandma's house and lavendar) and is a great base to explore Provence. The town of Lourmarin is lovely and filled with wonderful people. The chateau is just across the street. We had lunch at the hotel restaurant on our last afternoon and it was truly remarkable. Great service, unbelievable food.

My husband and I spent one night at the atmospheric Hotel Le Moulin in mid May of 2007. The hotel staff was friendly and competent. Our room was spacious and nicely decorated. We did not have any of the problems described in other Trip Advisor reviews.
The hotel is centrally located in the small, lovely town of Lourmarin with its stylish galleries and upscale shops. After checking in and exploring the town’s cobblestone streets, we had a drink at a sidewalk café and engaged in some serious people watching.
We then enjoyed a delicious bouillabaisse dinner (which must be preordered when making the reservation) outdoors on the upstairs deck of the L’Antiquaire restaurant located a short walk from the hotel. Breakfast the next day was delightful on the hotel’s dining room outside terrace.

My husband and I chose this property basically because we had stayed at the Bastide de Capelongue about 2 years ago. During that stay we discovered this sister (original, actually) property and bore it in mind for future stays. My husband was attracted to its quirkiness and our confidence in the choice was also boosted by the numberous great reviews of the hotel - both online and in print that we didn't hesitate at all when calling to book.
Sadly to say, this was a very disappointing overnight stay at the Moulin de Lourmarin. Both hotel and restaurant exudes a very depressing feel, as if the good times had moved on from this place. The room feels neglected and tired, and staff seem demoralised. I would steer those looking for a nice place to stay to look elsewhere. You will find newer properties with better attention paid to your needs at the same price elsewhere.
We had been travelling for about 10 days in Provence and decided to extend our stay when we called the Moulin. The first person I spoke to said that yes, they had 3 categories of room available for the date that I wanted and asked me to speak to Reception about booking. The call was transferred and I spoke to a young man who promptly stated that there were no rooms available. I repeated what the first person who answered my call said and his reaction was "Oh, in that case we have room."!! But he insisted that I would have to write in with a formal request for a room despite my offer of a credit card number to secure the room. Boy! I should have taken the hint then.
In the next couple of days I tried in vain to send a written request (and here, my Blackberry failed me). In sheer desperation, I called again and spoke to someone else who took my booking, my credit card number and said that I had one deluxe room booked for one night for Euro 160. As quick as that! No fuss at all!
When we turned up the welcome from the lone girl sitting at reception was warm and friendly. She showed us to our room and offered to turn on the airconditioning for us since it was a warm day. From then on it was a downhill all the way. The room was drab with tiny windows. The furnishings were tired. The bed sagged under a dull olive green cover. And the worst was that the air conditioning didn't work.
Because we had heard so much about the chef owner, we had booked to eat at the restaurant. When we arrived, there was some confusion as to which was our table. When we were finally shown to our table, someone else's written order was on the table and I pointed this out to the waiter, who said never mind. Someone brought over 3 breadsticks and some tapenade. And we waited and waited and waited for someone to offer us a drink, take our orders - something! But we were totally ignored for a good 20 minutes until we started to notice that other diners who had arrived later than us were already having their wine poured for them and their orders for the meal taken.
The shocker came when the maitre d came by our way after having shown a couple to their table next to ours. I asked for some service and he picked up the order at our table and I pointed out that the order was not ours and he gave us a filthy look and said haughtily that this madame, was not an order and not yours at that! So haughty and rude was his demeanour, we unanimously stood up to leave at that point. We dined heartily at another restaurant round the corner where our custom was much appreciated and where the service was prompt and the food excellent.
Upon returning to our room, we found the airconditioning to be truly not working. It was on but no cold air was blowing at all - in fact, it was cooler outside. We rang reception and asked for a change of room. They offered us a suite and upon inspection, the air conditioning didn't work either. Finally they found us a cheaper (Euro 120) room where the airconditioning worked. It was much smaller than the room we had booked, but much nicer and better appointed.
