This is a great holiday hotel even though it is used by business people. It is quiet during the day and the staff can not be praised enough. They are so obliging. The rooms are fantastic as is the breakfast and the views from the balconies are super. For the money you will not get better value. The Estoril/Lisbon coastline is perfect and you must hire a car and drive to Ericeira. The fish there is just amazing. A first class hotel even if it is just off the beaten track. The only down side is that you will not want to walk from the hotel. A car is essential. We will be going back soon.

Really a 5 star hotel!!!

Loved this hotel! We were on a vacation with our daughter who is living in Dublin. The apartment was very roomy and allowed for her privacy as well as ours. The two bathrooms were beautiful but neither was attached to a bedroom. LCD television, large deck with tables, chairs, & chaise, wing chairs, couch, washer/dryer with Englisn directions, well equipped kitchen, all made for an exceptional apartment unit. The views from the deck over the beautiful gardens and pool to the river were fabulous. All the amenities as stated in other reviews are far superior to a 4 star hotel. Two things made this better than all the other places we have ever stayed in Europe, it was quiet and peaceful & the staff really appeared to want to help you. The reception was set up so that you sat down and could discuss with them anything you might need. There was always someone on duty that spoke fluent English. Drivers and cabs were available to take you the 15+ mins. to downtown. Dining experience was lovely both for the buffet breakfast and dinner. You'll have a marvelous stay at the Solplay.
Great STAFF made this hotel experience even better!

We are mature travellers but are reasonably fit even though we usually book a car to go further afield. I booked with this in mind and because the hotel had good sports facilities and was within 30 minutes of the centre of Lisbon. I have only one negative and that was the position of the hotel did not permit any pleasant evening walks nearby: a promenade is about 20 minutes walk away at least. All the other comments are positive. The hotel, I found out later , was used by the England football team at the 2004 Euro Championship: that speaks volumes for the facilities (the gym, pools, steam room etc . There was nothing that the staff would not do for you and Anna (reception) and Ana (gym) were exceptional. The General Manager dealt with our one room service complaint in the best way I have received from a hotel!
You can walk in the daytime down to Alges in about 20 minutes downhill and catch a very cheap train into Lisbon taking about 15 minutes then a metro will take you just as chaeaply into the Rossio area where you can start you exploring: if you are over age 65 then travel is half price. Lisbon seems a very safe place but a chap did try to pickpocket my bag on the metro but without success but be warned to keep bags safe!
Shopping in Lisbon is not as good as some places in my wife's opinion! The Dessigner outlet (Freeport) about 30 minutes from Lisbon over the other side of the river is poor value, especially as the pound is weak against the euro now.
From the same Alges station near the hotel you can go westwards towards Cascais and Estoril: the former is a typical seaside resort and you can then walk along an excellent promenade to Estoril which had the feel of an old resort based around the Casino: neverthless there are excellent clean cafes along the promenade which you reach by going under the rail line.
Lisbon was very good but not the best of our city trips: they would be places like Verona, Cadiz, Saltzburg and of the larger places then I would rate Valencia and Barcelona as having more to offer taking lots of criteria into account.
Having said all that the hotel was great!!

My husband and I booked this hotel because we wanted to visit Lisbon as well as Cascais, Estoril, Sintra, Mafra and various Peninsular War sites in the space of 4 days. We had a hire car. Hotel ideally placed for all trips and travel to and from airport.
The room allocated on first night was excellent but was on windy side of hotel so balcony chilly. Got ourselves reallocated very easily next day to a room overlooking pool, Tagus and Ponte 25 de Abril. Gorgeous illuminated night vista from a large balcony.
Hotel in a very peaceful location.
Had indoor pool to myself on two out of three visits.
Room was clean, spacious and comfortable. If you wanted to self-cater, then you could have most effectively. Bed most comfortable.
Breakfast buffet good.
Staff very helpful. Directed us to free parking in Belem and an underground car park in Praca dos Restauradores which only cost Euros 15 for day. Both easy to find and enabled very satisfactory excusions into Lisbon.
We ate in hotel - Euros55 for 2 courses and bottle of wine. Very acceptable, different and pleasant meals. There are no restaurants in walking distance - which was not a downside for us but might be for some.
After hustle and bustle of Lisbon on two days and serious map reading outside in the countryside on the other two, it was a delight to return here for a swim, meal, sit on the balcony with a good view and excellent sleep.
