I have got back from Club Fanara and felt I would really like to offer a review of this resort for single travellers.
This is my 3rd trip to Sharm El Sheikh and my first travelling on my own. However, I returned to an area I was familiar with (I have previously stayed at Reef Oasis Beach Resort that is next door) and made it perfectly clear to the male staff that I was not looking for an Egyptian boyfriend and so my relaxing week in the sun went really well!
I booked the flight and hotel at the last minute and got a great value deal to stay here. The room rate I paid was excellent for all inclusive and I stayed in a very comfortable double room in Villa J. This had more than enough space and facilities for just myself.
The food choices were not too bad - although some repetition. The reception staff were excellent and dealt with any queries that I had quickly and efficiently.
Although I was an independent traveller on this occaision I did manage to book excursions through a 24 hour Thompson line and so did 3 organised trips - the Ras Mohammed Cruise, the Naama by Night and also the Quad Adventure. The details of how to contact the helpline and all the trips is easily accesible in the Tour Operator folder that is kept close to the recepetion.
I have to say that all of the people I met on the 3 excursions were really wonderful company and made each of the excursions fun.
I also treated myself to 2 massages - one as the sun was setting which was really relaxing, and also a more thorough beauty package that also included a massage. I found them both great. I also had a manicure and a pedicure at the beauty salon and I have to say these were both great value.
I ate at La Gazelle Restarurant (Italian) one evening and it was quieter and more intimate, but most of my meals were eaten at the main Temple Restaurant. I enjoyed it there as I would have my meal then go and sit and look out over the sea and cliffs at any time of the day there was always something to see - even at night boats with divers would be anchored just off the reef that s situated at the hotel beach. The service in all of the hotels I have stayed in Egypt has always been excellent.
Temple Reef is part of the hotel beach - and it is such an excellent place to snorkle. Must be good as many of the excursions bring people there!
I spent a lot of time by the pool reading and have to say that although I was told that the hotel was 75% full during my stay (19-26 May 08) I never found it hard to get a sunbed and I would always arrive at either the beach or the pool around 10am.
Useful stuff to note is that there is an ATM machine on site, the entertainement is a bit European orientated but is still ok and my tip would be to take one of the anti-bacterial hand gels and use it before and after meals / using money / swimming / visits to the bath room etc. I did for this trip and did not suffer any stomach upset.
The bonus for me was the weather which was just about as perfect as you could get for the week, hot and little wind that provided a cool breeze with the exception of one night time (The time I did the Naama by Night trip!!)
On the whole I had a really relaxing and pampering trip to Club Fanara and am thinking of returning for another holiday here later in the year if the price is right!

We stayed with 3 small children (1,5 ; 3,5 and 5 years old) in a family room. Although we hoped to have a two bedroom apartment it turned out that it was a one family room with one spare bedroom. The children slept in the family room. It was fine. Rooms were clean and I think that they are planning maintenance as we speak (they were working at some rooms when we were leaving). Windows had "blinded" curtains in order for our kids to have a decent midday sleep without having the sun in the room to much. Very was very convenient.
Food was very good, especially in the "Gazelle" restaurant. Relaxed and not so many people. But also pool restaurant was nice (we did not had diner in main building but I do expect it has the same quality)
Staff was nice and friendly and very helpfull. Maybe the bartenders at the poolbar can be a bit more friendly (although I can understand that if you have to work for 15 hours a day, 7 days a week and have to serve unfriendly Russians, that smiling is not always natural. Nevertheless, there are also other guests and they want to be treated nicely as they expect to be)
A jetty at the beach that passes the coral will not be a bad investment. Especially with low-tide it is very changeling to pass the coral without touching.
Animation team is doing their utmost to make you happy. Especially the sport service is very good.
Pool is nice, but the stones can be very hot and slippery. But if you where slippers and walk carefully, it is not disturbing. But if the hotel needs to spent some money... this might be a suggestion.
The masseurs were below average. They tend to work with their mobile in one hand and touching the body with the other. Also they forget appointments and staff is changing to rapidly. This needs to be improved!
Diving center is nice and very professional.
Recommendations for hotel staff:
- Towel service closing at 19.00 hrs instead of 18.00 hrs
- More attention to masseurs. They need to be improved
- Hotel employees, no mobiles during working hours
- Bartenders more friendly
- The gym is not a resting place for staff. It gives you the feeling that when you want to sport, you are disturbing their chatting (and who is now the customer?)
- If you have a baby in a buggy, then there is no ramp-up from the pool to the main building. Although the stairs that need to be taken are minor, the change to a ramp-up also.
In general: we enjoyed ourselves very much and I think we will return to this resort.

We booked a deluxe sea view room and got a good size room overlooking the sea and the pool. I contacted the hotel in advance to make sure we can have a double bed and not 2 twin beds, and we had 2 twin beds! The hotel (rooms, grounds etc…) is very clean, the beds are a bit tired though.
The staff is very friendly and helpful but the animation team is a pain, they played the same CD every day at the same time for the same activities. This is not a full all inclusive as you have only 5 cocktails in the all inclusive menu and we paid 5 pounds for a mediocre mojito the 1st evening, but we learnt our lesson. All juices are colored and sweet water. The food is very average, that is the main con of this place, the Egyptian dishes are better as well as olives and dates. After a couple of days I was so bored with the buffet that we bought some fresh fish they cooked at the bar in the evening and it was very good. The main restaurant feels like a canteen and the staff is taking your plate/ glass/ whatever as soon as you put it back on the table. Dinner was not a relaxing time for me.
The pool is very nice and heated, we enjoyed the same relaxing corner every day. We did not go to the beach as it was too crowded and you probably need to get up at 6am to have a sun lounge. The weather was really good, sunny every day but not too warm.
You have a lot of Russians and French, mainly families or couples. I think we will be going back to Sharm but not to the same hotel because we rarely go twice to the same place and there is nothing outstanding there that would justify another stay.

had a great week at the fanara everything we asked for we got and you do need to ask. we booked a seaview room and got a good one overlooking the sea and the pool. the hotel is very clean and the staff are very helpful and seem to prefer the english guests although there was only 25 of us. 70% of the guests are from russia or the eastern block. the snorklin is great lots of fish but watch out for the jellyfish. beach really needs a jetty but one can manage. the reef at this point must be the best because all the boats anchor there for diving. the beach gets very full with the russians so pick a good place by the pool which is better but the animation team are too much. a good tip is to eat at the gazelle resturant at the other end of the residence a ten minute walk its a lot more civilised than the main dining area/canteen. we will probably go again because the hotel is just the right size to be intimate. food is ok there is something for everyone unless you are a fussy eater.

Trying to play spot the cloud in Sharm is a very boring game, 7 days and nothing but the bluest sunny skys, if you are coming from England prepare to be dazzled. My wife, a self confessed sun lounge lover, was in heaven. Amazingly even the wonderful weather came second to the sea and its coral. To walk on the hotel beach wade into the water and have shoals of brilliantly coloured fish around your legs is a sight to behold. The coral itself around the beach has had a very hard time with being stood on and looks a worn out brown, but by snorkeling a bit further out or using the hotels resident PADI scuba centre you can see both the colourful fish and coral (the dive center can also rent you an underwater camera that will use your own memory sticks).
The hotel, as other reviews state, is clean and the staff are very frendly and helpful, the food is the real let down though. I guess it must be hard for the chefs to produce massive quanties of food and keep it interesting day after day but any pretence that the resterants are any thing other than cafeterias goes after day 2. By day 5 all inclusive does not seem that good deal it did back home. The good thing about this is it forces you to eat out and Sharm & Namma Bay has some wonderfull restaurants and even street side vendors- try it, enjoy it and put your tummy in the hands of the Pharoes!!
Over all then, we will be going back to Sharm but not to the same hotel but that is because of the food and not a reflection on the facilities or staff.
