The staff were friendly and this hotel had the making of a decent place to stay but the building works rather put us off. Also if you are in a wheelchair make sure you have sat nav ! Restaurant looks out over the lake and the bar meal was fine. Room was functional if a bit souless. Make sure you ask for one over looking the lake as ours did not, and was a bit dour. The whole place had an unfinish feel to it, but the location is convenient.

I stayed in this hotel for more then 3 years at least one night a week (and in the period 1985 - 2002 I stayed at least 6 times a year). Overall at least 100 nights spent in this place.
The location of the hotel is great, nice view over the lake.
The hotel itself is absolutely no value for money: most of the staff is junior (stagaire?), doesn't speak english, is inpolite (especially reception and restaurant).
Don't take any of the 10 rooms at end of the topfloor, they are right under the Gym and very very noisy. Make sure you don't take any of the rooms near the elevators or laundry room, they have the same problem.
Make sure you have one of the renovated rooms (unless you love to spend a night in the style of the 60's).
Alternative: The Grand Waterloo in Waterloo. Same chain, much better service and as a bonus: Cheaper in price!

not impressed

This should be a 5 star hotel but we were not really impressed. We booked this through a website that has special arrangements so it was not too expensive, but normally you pay a lot of money to stay here.
Our room was average.
I did like the great breakfast buffet.
Loved it. Beautiful Place.

Me and my boyfriend stayed at this hotel for 3 nights. Its situated beautifully with plenty of land and a huge lake surrounding the hotel. Plenty to do if you went in a month when the weather is better.
The staff were friendly and could not do more to help us out in finding our way around Brussels itself.
We never had breakfast in the hotel as we were always up and out quite early. But we did eat in there fine dining restarant which is a bit pricie but well worth it.
Our room class was called 'Great' and it certainly was. We had a Jacucci bath, T.V and all the usual stuff. Mini bar, tea and coffee making facilaties which are chargable but we just sneaked drinks and snacks up to the room after our days out.
We could not use the leisure facilities as they were doing refurbishment which cant be helped but it looked really nice.
Now getting there! Its easy once you know but we got in a bit of a pickle at the station and made the mistake of jumping into a cab and 105 euros later we were there! If you are travalling by Eurostar you will come into Brussels Midi. Once there you can get a train from the same part of the ststion to Genval it takes 30-40mins. Once at Genval its a 5 min walk to the hotel. If the weather is bad and you want to get to the station from the hotel just ask at reception and one of the porters will drive you up there for nothing just tip him once you get out. Train wise the same applies if you want to get to the Central Station where all the shops are and the Grand Palace is, its all on the same line. If you want to visit the Atomium which is well worth a look. You need to get to the Central Station then jump on the metro to Heysel which then takes a further 15mins.
Over all we had a great weekend. I was a bit worried about what the hotel was going to be like as I had read other reviews that had slated this hotel. But I would take no notice its lovely and worth every penny.

My boyfriend and I stayed here in September 2007. We stayed in this hotel because the hotels in the centre of Brussels were extremely expensive and this seemed to offer better value.
You can get half hourly trains from Brussels-Nord station to Genval and then it's about a five minute walk to the hotel. The train journey takes about half an hour, last train is at 11pm.
We booked on hotels.com which gave a very good rate (when compared with the price list in the hotel lobby) and we were (as far as I can see) upgraded to a bigger room when we arrived.
The hotel itself is quite corporate, it caters for a lot of conferences and seminars. So I think a lot of the people who stay there are on expense accounts rather than your average tourist.
You are charged for absolutely everything in this hotel. It's €3 to make yourself a cup of tea or coffee in your room. There is no iron in the room, you have to pay for an ironing service. Use of the leisure facilities is €25 per day (though it does depend on the hotel booking type).
We went up to use the leisure facilities, the man on reception was extremely rude and to be honest unless you want to lift weights all day, it didn't look great. Pool is tiny. We didn't actually use the facilities in the end as my (hapless) boyfriend realised he hadn't brought any swimwear on holidays so that was the end of that. Anyway.
Oh yes and we tried to book a massage but for all three days that we were there, the place was booked up, so don't hold your breath on that one.
You can walk around the lake (takes about 20 minutes) and can (naturally, for a small local charge) rent bikes and go fishing etc.
The room was nice, but they were making repairs to the room beside us and there was a lot of drilling during the day (it disrupted my pre-dinner nap!!). Also the cleaner twice came into our room (at 8.30am and 9.15am) to clean one morning. Eh, on my holidays, not up that early??!
The bar does good value food, and the strongest cocktail I have ever drunk yum yum.
So, basically, we paid very little for the room due to our hotels.com deal but I would have been very unhappy if i had been paying full price. Staff were nice though.
