We had planned to stay here one night before cruising out of Tampa, then three nights when we returned from the cruise. The first night wasn't bad. The shuttle picked us up at the airport and delivered us to the hotel in a very timely manner. The room was okay, but you could tell it had been well used and was in need of a good thorough cleaning and renovating. The shuttle also delivered us from the hotel to the cruise terminal very efficiently and promptly. When we returned from our cruise and checked back in, the room we were given was absolutely horrible -- plaster hanging from the ceiling, a musty cigarette odor (and an ashtray on the desk) in an advertised non-smoking room, a two- to three-inch gap under the external entry door, etc. To their credit, the front desk did offer to move us to another room, although they sounded less than enthused about it. Since we had the added convenience of a rental car now, we opted to ask for a refund and move to a different hotel. We were initially charged a half-day's rate because the room had been used (we used the restroom and a hand towel), but after sending a complaint to Choice Hotels through their website, I got a voice mail from the hotel manager saying that they would refund that money. We travel a good bit and stay almost exclusively in Choice Hotel brands, and this was by far the worst experience we've ever had. It is also the first time that I've ever checked into a hotel and not stayed the night. The lobby area and the pool area were actually pretty nice, but the rooms and the overall feel of the hotel definitely left something to be desired.

I use Choice Hotels alot for business travel, but this was truly one of the worst ones I stayed at. Outside entraces, questionable security, loud a/c, well used rooms. The Holiday Express next to it looks alot nicer, owned by the same person.
Will not be staying there again.

We chose this hotel because it was within walking distance of Legend's Field and we had tickets to games two days in a row. Due to the reasonable price we were not expecting much other than convenience to the stadium. We were pleasantly surprised.
The room was very clean, the maid service very discreet. Our bed was unbelievably comfortable - something I would not have expected in a less than luxury hotel. They offered a reasonable breakfast which was included in the price - always a little something hot such as eggs, hotcakes or sausage and the rest a typical continental choice selection. There was a nice sized, clean looking pool which we did not swim in.
The hotel offered van pickup from the airport and service to a 3 mile radius around the hotel. The airport was given priority, and the wait for a ride ran between 15 and 40 minutes. They did give us a handout on check-in which said that priority was given to advance requests over those just walking to the desk and wanting a ride. We used the van service several times over the 3 1/2 days we were there and really had no complaints about the wait. We were happy to be shuttled rather than have to rent a car and negotiate unfamiliar streets. We saved on the car rental and parking fees. There are a large number of restaurants in the 3 mile radius that the van will take you to, and when called they picked us up within 30 minutes (just plan on calling before you want to go out the door).
We took the van to the International Mall twice. GREAT shopping and the selection of restaurants there was extensive. We ate three meals there over the weekend. I highly recommend the Gallery Bistro and Piazza Roma. Near the hotel itself was a Seltzer's Steakhouse which we felt was poor quality food (see my review), but down the street about a block was a wonderful diner - Mom's Diner and we had an outstanding breakfast there twice (see my review) - you would be missing out if you didn't go there at least once.
This is not a luxury hotel, but we felt like we got good value for our money and the convenience we had walking to Legends Field (equally close to Ray Jones Stadium) was well worth the price.

We only stayed in the hotel one night before our airport departure. The hotel room was quite cheap so we didn't expect it to be anything special. The room was clean, and was fine for what we wanted. The only problem is as someone has said previously the a/c was really noisy! We would have given the accomodation 2* but the the staff were very helpful, and the shuttle service was excellent so for that we thought it deserved more. The shuttle was great, absolutely no problems to the airport as others have said. It also goes to downtown tampa, and anywhere close by. We got it to the international mall near hotel (which is worth a visit), and we got dropped off and picked up when we wanted. The breakfast was fine too. The holiday inn next door does look nicer, but its probably moreexpensive. If you want a clean hotel for a short stay it was really good, and we had no problems.

Had problems with shuttle service. Called twice, waited an hour and a half and it never came. Outside appearance of hotel is neat but very dated. Unpleasantly surprised that there were ONLY outside entrances to rooms. Stairways to second level are badly corroded and felt somewhat unsafe. No elevators, so non-ambulatory relative could not get to our room. Staff seemed confused and overwhelmed. Room was very clean and well-maintained. Website does not accurately represent the hotel. Had we known there was a Holiday inn Express next door, we'd have booked it instead.
