My family stayed at the Fortunella in July, 2006 for four nights, we had a room on the 3rd floor opposite of the small sun deck. The room and hotel were spotless. Our room had a queen bed and bunk bed for my two teenage sons. The room may have been small but was very comfortable. (but we did not spend much time in the room anyway) The sundeck was not used by many people, it overlooked the neighborhood and had a table for 4. It was a great spot to have dinner, we picked up some food and wine for for dinner, after dinner the kids went back to the room while we sat and drank some wine and enjoyed the evening. The beach is within walking distance, it has many places to rent bach chairs and also has a great boardwalk with many restaurants. It is a good spot for day trips, it is 20 minutes from Pisa and we spent one day in Florence. The owners were very gracious, helped us whenever we needed anything. We had dinner once, in the hotel restaurant, it was wonderful, everything is homemade. We were not bothered by road noise, the windows are equipped with rolldown shutters that kept the noise out.

This was out first family trip to Italy ( 2 kids 11 & 13). The resort is were the Italians take there holidays, so English is not really spoken. The resort was immaculate and the Italians very friendly.
The hotel is a 3 star and was very clean and tidy and the breakfast very nice.. The staff do speak English , which was useful, as they advised me where to get the bus to Pisa and Florence. The hotel had mountain bikes, which the 4 of us used daily, for free. There is miles of flat cycle lanes so very safe. The beach was literally a 2 min walk and is spotless.
The only thing I could criticise about the hotel was, although they had air conditioning, it only came on at certain time sof the day and not in the evening, so at night it was warm and quite uncomfortable.
I would certainly go back.
Not recommended!

We stayed at Hotel Fortunella for two nights in July 2005.
The hotel was ok standard, but we expected more for 90 euros. The hotel rooms were small, with balcony, no refridgerator and little floor space. The beds were hard and uncomfortable. We had to pack all your belongings before the housekeeping came, because she left all the doors open while she was cleaning all the rooms. The breakfast was bad, only crossaints, yougurt, juice and jam.
We felt that the service was bad. We did not sense a welcoming atmosphere when we came to the reception. It seemed as they gave better service to the Italian families, and were not ready for tourists.
The rooms were hot most of the time. We asked the man in the reception if there was something wrong with the airconditioning. He said that it was only on between 11 am to 5 pm. We asked "why not longer"? He said: "It is not possible". We did not appreciate the tone he gave us. Luckily, the beach was only 200 meters away, so we did not have to stay in our hot hotel room.
We will not choose this hotel in the future, and will not recommend it to tourists.
