Good hotel - not so good room allocation

We stayed at this hotel the beginning of July and it was very quiet, the piano bar and other bar areas were deserted every night and the restaurant nearly empty. You had to go out at night to find any sort of holiday atmosphere. This hotel is of a very high standard with lovely decor, it’s a shame the public areas were not used. Our room was also of a high standard, spacious and clean but it overlooked the hotel next door and a pathway which was being noisily renovated – the balcony had no sun so we spent as little time as possible in it. We did ask on check-in if we could pay to upgrade our room to a sea view and was told it was the last room available, which was obviously NOT true as the days went on – there were many sea facing rooms empty. I am still at a loss to understand this, they didn’t have the courtesy to reply to an email I sent them on my return. The pool was lovely and we had no trouble in finding a sun bed, the private shingle beach was a nice change but they do charge a small fee but worth it and they have lovely gardens for a shady retreat from the sun. Apart from the position of our room we had a good time but would I go back again next year, on a matter of principle – no!

this is a great hotel, the beds are so comfortable, the rooms are really large and each have a balcony.
The breakfast is really nice with a great variety. the dinner menu was pretty limited but maybe this is because we were there at start of season.
The pool and beach area are really nice and there are loads of sun loungers.
The shuttle into taormina is really handy too, 3? each way, the local bus goes from around the corner for ?2 return, and they both take pretty much exactly the same time.
Reception seemed pretty overwhelmed at times.
This hotel hosts alot of conferences but these dont interfere!
great selection of channels in the bedrooms too!

one of the greatest hotels i have ever been, the rooms were tidy having a wonderful view. great hospitability, great service, spacious rooms with comfortable large beds, good for a relaxing holiday by the beach. the breakfast buffet was perfect with a large selection of food. lovely pool. the hotel deserved its stars.
maybe some negative aspects of the hotel are that its quite an expensive hotel mostly in the peak season.
no mirror was found in the room, just in the bathroom
since the address was giardini naxios i thought i was in naxios bay near sporting biai hotel. to get there you need about 20 to 30 mins walk
however on the whole i give the hotel a rating of 8/10
