Not really a 5 star hotel

The hotel is centrally located, but definitely not a 5 star hotel. Based on our room size and amenities we would give it a 3 star to be more appropriate. What we did like is the excellent hotel service. The look of the hotel is kind of boring and that's our overall impression for Vienna.

I stayed here with my family in November 2004. The Intercontinental Wien is conveniently located and the concierge is helpful. The rooms are very nice but this is new hotel, post-war, and it does not have the elegance of pre-war hotels.

We found the IC to be ideally located. It is near enough to tourist destinations in the city center and also right next to the U-Bahn, which will efficiently take you anywhere else in the city.
Check-in was quick and painless - front desk staff seemed friendly even after our long flight. The rooms were smallish even by European standards - but comfortably furnished. We had a room on the club floor with a great view of Stadtpark.
The gift shop in the hotel was sort of inadequate and closed most of the day.
The restaurant is open late and the food is good and reasonably priced by Vienna standards. The cafe in the lobby has a decent selection of small items (pastries, breads, small sandwiches) and good coffee.
