I stayed seven days in the Intercontinental for business the beginning of June, 2008. The hotel is situated close to the US Embassy, in the "Sanhattan" part of Santiago, the modern and upscale business district. I stayed in a standard double room, which was in very good condition. The furniture and bed were tastefull and comfortable. The bathroom had sepaprate bath tub and shower and everything was in order. The one area that needs immediate attention is Internet connection. While there is WiFi in the lobby and 2nd floor area, in the rooms you must connect via network and for some unexplicable reason I could not do so... As far as the dining facilities I only ate breakfast, which was buffet style and average in quality and variety... There is a swimming pool and gym facilities of average quality and you may also get a massage, which at 50USD I think is a good price and recommended in order to get over the aches of the long trip to Chile...

Hotel Intercontinental

I stayed at Hotel Intercontinental, Santiago, Chile on May 12-13, 2008. It is in a nice location, near plenty of restaurants (try Miguel Torres restaurant around the corner). The staff were not very friendly or accomodating. They advertise a gym (on 18th floor) but did not advertise that they charge $8.00 USD per day of use. This is misleading. Also, no breakfast included with the room rate. Internet charges ($18.00 USD/day) is a bit higher. I do NOT recommend this hotel for a typical business traveler. I had an average experience for not-so-average price, and they WILL nickel-n-dime you for additional services. My advice: go stay at the Holiday Inn Express right next door.
Not worthy of Intercontinental name

Was booked into the IC Santiago as part of a business group. We were all put into the old tower, and it is VERY shabby. Worn carpet, thin sheets, greyish towels.
Hot water disappeared on a random basis (no, the water didnt run cold, there just wasnt any water coming out of the hot 'tap'). I asked for it to be fixed twice. After the third occurrence which left me with a head of shampoo which I had to rinse off in cold water I asked for a room change. I was told yes rooms were available however it was an extra $40 a night. When I protested that I shouldnt have to pay extra for a room with hot water I was moved to a tiny room.
Would not recommend it to anyone.
Only one disappointment

We arrived at 10.30am after a 14 hour flight. I know check in is supposed to be 3.00pm but we weren't given our rooms even then. One couple had to wait till 4.20pm. We were exhausted by then.
Apart from that everything was fine. Comfortable rooms, staff always pleasant, bar/restaurant offering good menu and very good breakfast.
Just ok... not bad ..not great.

Not a bad hotel but be warned up front.. there are two towers at this hotel -- the old tower had nice rooms but have not been updated and they all have air conditioning issues.. which we found out . We stayed at one room on the third floor and tried to use the air -- did not work.. We called to have it repaired and or get a new room and they insisted they could fix it..hours later they finally moved us to another room which to my dismay had air issues as well. Given it was late at night and they claimed the hotel was full we stayed.. under the condition that they put us in the new tower when we returned. It should also be noted that we spoke to alot of people staying here as we were part of a tour and all who stayed in the older tower had air issues...
They ( at the desk) said there was no differance between towers and let me state that there was a HUGE differance... the rooms were much nicer-- had better appointments and had air conditioning that worked.. considering we just visited and it was on 90 (it is there summer ) and humid that was important to our comfort....
The hotel is modern... big ... we actually stayed at Intercontinetials before and felt it was a bit below what I normally expected but as this was booked as part of a tour it was no big deal.
They do have a restaurant downstairs for breakfast.. I stronly recommend that you go elsewhere.. the food was poor and the service was lacking... you would best be servered going to one of the many places just a block away.
The only drawback is the location in my opinion.. it is really outside of town but it is easy to use the subways to get where you want to go.
