This hotel while famous and good looking from the outside is a fraud. We booked a seaside view and did not get it. We were there for Bastille day and made a res at the hotel restqurqnt for the fireworks. Our table was in a corner and a tree blocked our view of the show. I am a vegetarian and when I informed the wait staff they said the chef was too busy to accomodate. They charged me 129 Euros for a plate of old vegetables. Needless to say I went to bed hungry. If you are foolish enuf to stay here, then make sure you make reservations at the attached beach site at the same time. Else they will not get you a spot on the beach even tho you paid big time to stay in a room which has not been renovated since Hitchcock shot his movie here. Try the Majestic instead you will still pay but at least you will get something for your dough. Also check your bill mystery charges and exhaustive mini bar and overpriced movie rentals (18 Euros for a movie) Buy the movie DVD its cheaper. Cannes is still beautiful; the Carlton used to be.

I have just come back from two nights at the Ritz Carlton. This is not really a a 5 Star Hotel. Small, under equipped rooms, peeling wallpaper, surly, disinterested staff and a charge of 530 Euros a night.
Apart from an excellent concierge the staff seem to wish they were somewhere else.
Food is OK but the breakfast buffet is not kept stocked and staff are unhappy when asked to help.
Evian at 8 Euros a bottle in the room?
Not again!

We booked 6 twin rooms (near eachother) for a weekend stay. Upon check-in, we were told the hotel was full, and that they could only offer double rooms scattered around the hotel. As you can imagine, we were not happy. We asked to speak with managers. Raphael and Jean-Luke must be the Rudest people I have ever come across. They said there was nothing they could do. Anyway, after a heated argument, 6 twin rooms suddenly became available??? And we were told very rudely by Jean0luke (who at this point looked like he was ready to hit me) that we should be grateful.
ROOMS: Rooms were old ,dated, carpet is old, Air-con in most of the rooms was not working (I think this occurs in most of the rooms..as they were not suprised). Wall paper flaking off, and all rooms are smoking rooms, so they all stink of stale smoke.
STAFF: Jean-Luke and Raphael were so rude. Other staff not a great deal better.
RIP OFF: Even IC guests must pay to sit on the IC beach (38 euros pp)
Overall, I would not recommend this hotel to anyone, there are many better places to stay!

Have just returned from the Carlton. Was lucky enough to have been on an all expenses paid trip as the Hotel and Cannes itself were VERY expensive. The hotel is beautiful, elegant and very chic. Our room was gorgeous. We didn't see amy of the negative stuff that other people have posted, although it would be nice to have tea and coffee making facilities in your room.
The beach was great, if a bit regimented with all the sun loungers in rows. Facilities on the beach were fab, but again it was so expensive. 8 euros for a tiny bottle of water, and 20 euros for a glass of champagne. However, The Carlton is not the sort of place you'd stay if money was a concern. Would I stay there again - definately as long as I wasn't paying
